Gravel. It's everywhere. And every block of gravel is a potential piece of flint. We just have to have the patience to turn it into such.
You're low on arrows. You've got plenty of wood and no shortage of feathers but no flint. But, you do have some stacks of gravel in your chest. Now you just have to spend the next 20 minutes placing and retrieving those gravel blocks over and over and over and over and over and over again until they all eventually yield that usefull, pointy piece of flint.
This idea is more of a convenience tool rather than some kind of game changer. While performing the above ritual with a few block of gravel may not be too bad, when you're doing it with 10-20+, it can get a bit tedious. With the addition of a Flint Extractor, this task can be done more than likely faster as well as easier. Just dump in a stack of gravel and go off to do something else while the Extractor converts your gravel into flint for you, at the standard 1 Gravel : 1 Flint ratio, of course.
My initial thoughts on the crafting recipe for the Flint Extractor are as follows:
E E E
S S S
I R I
E = empty square, S = String, I = Iron Ingot, R = Redstone dust
This would essentially form a motorised base with a sort of sifter net in which the gravel is placed. Perhaps the Extractor might require a single piece of redstone dust to power it in order to convert several blocks of gravel into Flint; perhaps not.
This recipe is, of course, just an initial thought and I'm open to any thoughts that might be had about it.
I hope my idea is liked and perhaps even liked enough that it gets implemented at some point. I feel it would make making bows in large quantities much easier, particularly for those without a skeleton dungeon on hand for use as an arrow farm.
I'm going have to say that I dislike this. I think its a bit too powerful....the only way to make it better would be to have a long time delay, kind of like a furnace. However, it takes away from finding flint naturally, and makes it a bit overpowered. It's not a "Bad" Idea, but I think it could use some reworking.
