The potion of aura when consumed would create a glow that would show where mobs and players are. This would be a better alternative to using hacks on worlds. For hostile mobs it would create a red color where the mob is. It would be a lighter color of red the further they are. Players and neutral mobs (Zombie Pigmen, Endermen) would be green because they are considered neutral. Passive mobs would be colored blue because they are friendly. The aura will not be visible through blocks such as obsidian, bedrock, dispensers, furnaces (Things that can't be pushed with a piston).
This could be crafted with a awkward potion and ender pearl. It would last for approx. 1 minute and 30 seconds and would be increased to 3 minutes with redstone. It would have a range of 15-20 blocks and 20-25 with glowstone added. This allows people to search for dungeons. This potion could be very useful on survival worlds or pvp maps so players could have some idea of where everyone is.
If you have any suggestions please say so I can improve it.
I don't think color dye should be used. The more rare the ingredient the better, in order to balance the borderline-OP effects of the potion. For example: ghast tear + eye of ender = [fancy name here]
I like the idea, although a few suggestions for this:
1) the catalyst should not be a dye. It should be something very rare, considering how useful this potion would be. I would suggest Awkward Potion + golden apple, but make the time a bit shorter by default, to 1:30 to make it a little less powerful. Redstone can be added to boost that time to 3 minutes and glowstone can be added to jump the radius from 15 blocks to 25 blocks.
2) This potion should not work below if their is a minimum of six opaque blocks above your head, by the logic that that to see the aura you would need the sun or moon to illuminate the mystical derp aura for you. Thus, it would not work in the Nether or The End. This could be negated if you are in an area being lit by glowstone where the light level is at least 8, by the logic that glowstone is sufficiently magical to show the magical derp aura.
3)It should work on people who are using potions of invisibility, to make that potion more defendable against. It should not work on iron golems, not alive, or on endermen, wither skeletons, ghasts, or the Wither, on the logic that they are not of this world and thus not animated by the same magical derp energy, having a herp aura instead of a derp aura.
I think this potion seems good enough. I'd like it if the mobs had a fiery-like aura around them (If you've played the story mode in super smash bros brawl you would know what I'm talking about).

To all of you people who think Notch is still working on the game, he stopped working on Minecraft in late 2011. Get your facts straight and stop spamming his twitter about Minecraft updates.

I never played the game but it would be cool with but with pixelly version to match minecrafts theme
Reminds me of Lucario from SSBB. Anyway, how about a recipe for carrots as those improve your eyesight In real life (Which is probably the reason why it is used for nightvision)

I guess that works because you would have an increase of eyesight but that wouldn't fit with detection.

In short: potion is op nerf nao mojagn
There is a range that would be about 20-30 blocks so still in theory it is possible to avoid the detection.
15-20 blocks and I'm sold.
Mind you, this would be pretty useful for finding dungeons.
