Environmental sounds would be...well...sounds from the environment!
They would act as biome-specific ambient noises. They would be at least
fairly fitting for the environment and time of day you hear them at. The deeper
you go under ground, the quieter they become, until eventualy you can't hear them.
Forest daytime:
During daytime in the forests, you would hear birds
chirping and the occasional sounds of rustling leaves.
Maybe some random squirrel sounds every once in
a while.
Forest nighttime:
At night in the forests, you would hear a constant stream
of chirping crickets and an owl hooting every 10-35 seconds.
Plains daytime:
On the plains, you would hear gentle breezes sweeping across the
landscape, accompanied by chirping insects and and eagles screeching.
Plains nighttime:
The same as at daytime, but without the eagles or bugs.
Desert (all times)
Just the sounds of winds sweeping across a sandy plane.
Tundra daytime:
Harsh, billowing winds and the sounds of snow
scattering across the ground.
Tundra nighttime:
It's still windy, butt he winds sounds slower and less harsh.
The howling of distant wolves ecoes through the still night.
Taiga day and night:
The same corresponding soundscapes as the tundra, possibly with
some birds singing during the day.
Swamp daytime:
Frogs croak. Water splashes. Crickets chirp
as you explore this sticky, marshy land.
Swamp nighttime:
The occasional, independant frogs and crickets
fade into a nonstop corrus of frogs singing.
Jungle daytime:
Some good jungle sounds would include parrots and
exotic birds squawking, leaves rustling, and bugs
singing in the distance.
Jungle nighttime:
Same as daytime, but more subdued and with
more insects and less birds.
Beach/ocean, all times:
Sounds would include waves flowing and crashing, splashing
sounds and seagulls.
Undeground:
As you explore deeper into the earth, the normal
abiance would fade into dripping water, small stones
tumbling and mysterious noises from the deep.
Deep undergound:
As you dig down below layer 31, you will notice that the sounds change
once more. The mysetrious but serene sounds of the underground will
be replaced with the loud bubbling and fowing of lava. You would hear
steam hissing violently, and faint creaking and groaning would be
audible, since you're in an unstable part of the world, deep udnerground,
full of boiling, flowing magma.

I wonder if there's a mod for this already.
Not a horse or pony.
