Problem: Fishing right now requires constant attention and usually isn't worthwhile unless you're trying to tame ocelots.
Lobster and lobster traps:
Right now, oceans have very little use. So I wanted to bring one. And that's why I want lobsters.
Here is the crafting recipe for a cage. The cage hold up to three lobsters. Gravity affected.
Bait: I have no idea, I was thinking about raw fish but scrapped it. Any ideas?
Catches: It will catch mostly red lobsters. A raw red lobster would refill 1 hunger point while a cooked would refill 4.
Next would be the rare blue lobster. Uncooked heals 3 and cooked heals 6. The blue lobster would be very rare at .5% chance of catching.
How to use: Place at the bottom of an ocean biome and wait. Go back down and collect the lobster by right clicking and bringing up a GUI or punching the cage.
Lobster Farming To prevent mass farming, lobster cages need to be surrounded by at least 3 water source blocks. Mass farming is still possible, but lobsters take longer than fishing does. Also, you can mass farm with melons too.
Clams
On the sea floor there will be clams laying around. Swimming down and hitting them will result in them becoming a drop. Clams are placeable.
Placing a clam in a crafting grid will allow you to get it's muscle. This will refill one hunger point.
Rarely, a 2x2 clam will be on the sea floor. Punching these will drop a pearl and some muscle.
Use of pearl: Possibly a new potion ingredient.
Mussels Will be much like the clams but in rivers instead. There will be no giant mussels or pearls.
End note: These are only a few ways to making fishing better. I will hear your recommendations for fishing. Since traveling to the bottom of oceans can be dangerous, I was thinking of adding a respirator,which will enhance breathing time. I will add this if enough people think it's necessary.
I like the idea. In fact, I love the idea of improving fishing entirely. However, I feel that this could be expanded into a much larger thread. Support for the Lobster cage though.

I changed it and made it an update for fishing instead of lobster cages. I felt as though it can be expanded too.

My mega long suggestion for Brewing & Farming!
I changed it and made it an update for fishing instead of lobster cages. I felt as though it can be expanded too.
