Hey Everyone,
I would like your input.
What do you think of adding jukebox minecarts to the game?
They would be crafted similar to a powered minecart (place 1 jukebox above 1 minecart in the crafting window). While jukeboxes currently have a pretty long range that you can hear them from, it would be nice to have the music follow you (ergo, on rails). I think this could possibly be implemented in custom adventure maps. The map creator could have jukebox minecarts set to follow the player (hidden from sight behind a wall or something) during certain sequences of the map. Say you have a creepy, dark tunnel sequence. You could have the jukebox minecart follow the player and play music disc 11 (the creepy, man running, one).
btw By follow the player, I don't mean implementing new minecraft physics to allow them to follow a player.
I mean following a prebuilt track at a speed that is set by a complex (wonderful) system of buttons, redstone, powered rails, etc... that is worked out by the map creator. Thus, adding jukebox minecarts does not mean adding any new game mechanics. It would simply mean adding the item (and crafting recipe) to the game.
I think that, in the very least, this would make a nice mod (in the case that it isn't implemented officially).
and then what will be the point of adding music to the game? there's already music and sounds following you everywhere. there's no point of this suggestion plus a track system to follow a speed it will take resources just to add a sound to your tail? nope not good sorry
I see what you're saying. This wouldn't be very useful for normally generated survival maps. (unless you just felt like listening to a jukebox while you're riding a minecart down to your mine). But, for adventure maps (which are custom made in creative mode) it'd be pretty easy to create a few minecart rail systems to have jukebox carts follow. Like I said before, this would only add the ability to craft a jukebox minecart, nothing more. You'd simply craft it and place it on minecart rails.
p.s. I'm not trying to defend my suggestion (if it's no good, then it's no good). Just trying to explain it better. (It seems I may have been misunderstood).
It sounds like an original idea to me, which is something to be commended. However, I'd prioritize other features being added to the Jukebox such as being able to place and remove discs using a device like the Allocator Block. Otherwise, the benefits from this addition your suggesting would be pretty limited.
