I think it would be cool if bats behaved a little more like they do in real life:
In the day time, bats would automatically seek places with low light levels (5 or less) with a ceiling to grab on to, then fly inside and rest. A closed door would make the bat unable to "see" low light levels inside your home.
In this way, bats would tend to be flying around only during late dusk, early dawn and at night. Bats would only fly around during the day if they couldn't find a cave to sleep in.
I know Minecraft isn't intended to be particularly realistic, but I think this touch of realism would add some interest to bat behaviour.
Edited the subject to be clearer that bats would only seek low light during the day.
Fruit bats are often seen flying in the day, so this would be a pointless adition in that sense.
Actually, fruit bats tend to roost in trees during the day and are most active at the times I suggested. I know because we have them around where I live.
I did think of bats possibly seeking the shade of trees during the day and sleeping while hanging from the underside of leaf blocks.
And to the others, please keep the thread on-topic. If you have a suggestion of your own regarding bat behaviour, make a new thread instead of hijacking someone else's.
I'm not putting down any ideas. I rather like the idea of a bat occasionally dropping leather when killed. But that has nothing to do with the subject of this thread.
As to the point, it would make bats a touch more annoying (as they are evidently meant to be) since they would then scatter as you entered a cave, momentarily blocking your vision.

Roleplay characters:
Death (me)
War
Pestilence
Famine
Or have tameable bats.
