You may be thinking this will be another one of THOSE topics, the ones that suggest crawling, dual wielding, wallclimbing, diving and the likes. This is NOT one of those topics!
This topic pertains to tumbling, fence vaulting and stair sliding.
I’ll start with explaining tumbling:
If you fall over 4 blocks, and if the block you land on has at least one side exposed to air with a drop below it that is at least 3 blocks, you will bounce up 1 block and move to that side. It can better be explained with these diagrams:
This is the way it works now. When you jump off a ledge, you abruptly stop where you hit the ground. This is incredibly boring and unrealistic. It shall be replaced with this:
This is the way “tumbling” works. When you land on a block, if there is at least a 3 block drop beside it, you will scoot over and fall down it as well. This creates a “tumble” effect for large mountains, as shown. If multiple sides of the block are exposed, you will fall down the one with the longest drop. If they are all equal, it’s random. Tumbling deals no ADDITIONAL damage, it actually REDUCES it somewhat. With each fall you take during your tumble, the damage you take from that fall reduces by 1(half a heart). Due to the 3 block tumble minimum, you can’t tumble down a small hill, unless you’re Jack or Jill, but you CAN tumble down a steep mountain.
Fence Vaulting:
DON’T call it parkour. People have been vaulting fences before parkour was invented. Basically, with the addition of fence vaulting, you can jump over fences. However, it’s not quite that easy. This diagram represents what happens when you try and jump a fence in Minecraft:
This will still apply with fence vaulting, IF you just run up to the fence and press the spacebar.
THIS diagram represents fence vaulting:
If you jump one block away from the fence, and then punch it in midair, the game will launch you over and 2 blocks beyond the fence. You will keep your sprint while executing this move. Simple enough.
Stair Sliding:
Right now, sprinting down stairs is jerky, slow and boring. With stair sliding, you won’t need to!
This diagram represents the current way to get down stairs:
As you can see, it’s annoying, THIS diagram represents stair sliding:
Basically, if you hold crouch in midair while falling/jumping towards/over stairs, you “slide” down the stairs. If you land in a slide, your fall damage is halved and your view is lowered to the height of a single block. You have no control over your movement while sliding. You cannot stop sliding. You go as fast as sprinting, but SMOOTHLY. You can slide down a maximum of 64 stairs before you gradually come to a stop. You keep your sprint after executing this move.
That sums it up! Leave your opinions below!

Not bad! I support all except for the stair thing, seems too complicated.

Seems good! I originally came here to complain because i thought this was just going to be the smart moving mod but you have brought some very interesting concepts up!
Another idea, if you run and jump, you should skid a block forward due to the momentum. Also maybe in water you gradually float to the top and you have to hold shift to stay down.
The problem with the skidding is that it would RUIN parkour maps, because it would be impossible to land on a single block.

I've seen his, it's kinda unoriginal. I saw nothing in his that wasn't already in a mod, or hadn't been suggested before.
Nothing bad about using some stuff from mods, besides, the smart moving mod's pretty nice in itself.
as for your suggestion:
Tumbling wouldn't really work as it would easily become too frustrating, "better grab that coal from the mountain, I'll just jump down here and- GODDAMMIT!"
^and what about health? I can easily see people dieing from otherwise survivable jumps.
as for fence vaulting, isn't the whole point of fences to be a way to keep people/things out without having to go two blocks high? and what's the point of fence gates if you can jump over them?
sliding, kinda meh IMO, you don't really slide down stairs in real life, plus i'd go much faster both ways to just put a minecart system in.
which you would probably do anyways if you have that big a stairway
final note, it's not the "original" movement improvement, I've just shown one of likely many movement suggestions.

I appreciate your criticism. I don't mean "original" as in first, I mean "original" as in fresh, innovative ideas.

Thank you!
That may be the case, I didn't especially keep complexity in mind during this suggestion.

maybe PM creepersnemisis and merge your two ideas?
