I'm sure this has been said before, but it needs saying again. The undyed layer to leather is incredibly ugly. The feeling I got after it was put in was that of getting a fancy new toy (the ability to make clothing) and then someone walking in and stepping on it, breaking it. It clashes so badly with the colors you can make it almost made me want to do away with my entire wardrobe I made. I even made a almost-nude minecraft skin so I'd have to wear clothing, but now I'm tempted to just walk in my skivvies.
The argument I hear for why Mojang added the layers in is because people can too easily confuse leather with other armor (iron, diamond and gold). Yet these textures were tweaked as well and are very clearly different (the shine on the armor and the shape. The leather tunic has buttons, hangs a bit lower and has a texture to it that looks very much like clothing, not armor). To be honest.. how blind do you have to be to confuse blue clothing with leather armor? Even if that were so, it'd be kind of fun to have that trickery, but I can't imagine someone who would mess that up. I'm nearly blind, and at a distance with my contacts out, I can tell the difference between the leather and the armor. So I very honestly think it is a poor excuse and not worth getting people upset at how you are now ruining the clothing you just let them make.
Now, it's unlikely Mojang will ever listen to me or even read this post, so in the meantime, I tweaked the textures myself to remove the layers. To put it simply, I just replaced the layers with blank textures and removed them from the items file. You can download it here if you dislike the textures. . .
Use it like any other texture pack. If you want this modification done to your current texture pack and do not know how, send me it and I will make the adjustment (it really just takes Gimp/Photoshop and the ability to read.. and something like 7zip).
I hate people who complain. I hate spiders. I hate people who own an Xbox One. I hate people who like sandbox games. I hate people who like first person shooters. I hate people who like explosions. I hate people who like video games. I hate people who are hateful. I hate people that don't like spam. I hate people who like cake. I hate people who type in proper grammar and spell words properly on the internet. I hate hypocrites.

I can see why they added it, but I agree, it's very ugly.
Maybe we can dye that extra layer some how in the future?
I doubt it. For now, i'm just removing it from my client.
It also gives texture pack makers more freedom allowing feathers, belts, undershirts and such.
I do not support.
