+1, great ideas! I especially want to see the canyon/skylands biomes, ESPECIALLY the skylands. And if diamonds generate at the level these sky-lands generate, that would make the skylands even more valuable than just some floating dirt and rocks.
Also, -Icy Edge biome
Only forms around the very edges of the world, as far as it will generate. The ground is covered in 1-2 full blocks of snow and it is always snowing. There is nothing living (much), and there is only a 1-block-layer of dirt (permafrost-looking) above the stone beneath it. All water is ice, even under the surface of the water itself. Sometimes there is a ravine or crater, and they are the only landforms visible.
Support all but the sky biome (since this has already been discussed and shouldn't be suggested anymore). Don't know why people are saying "original ideas" though, I have seen them all before.

This crap of having a desert by a tundra is silly.
In fact, the entire land generation is silly. I would ideally like to see actual landmasses that resemble the way a continent might actually form instead of random patches of land and random patches of water. And then, you could write simple if statements to keep certain biomes from happening right next to others that make no sense.
As far as other biomes: The long desired volcanic biome is at my top. I would like to see the crevasses removed from terrain gen and replaced by a canyon biome which would be like crevasses but HUGE, so that it's actually impossing to either bridge or go down into.
Another one I'd like to see would be a "bluffs" biome. There's never a point which the land abruptly seems to drop off into the water, and rarely is there higher elevation like a plateau. Instead we only have extreme hills, which are nice but not necessarily nice to build in.
Oceanic biomes are a must! I have outlined my idea for better terrain generation but the oceanic biome is pretty much pointless right now. There's no reason at all to go out there. There should be mobs and resources unique to the ocean that require craftable helmets or water breathing potions to go under the waves to experience. How about a water working potion that makes it so we can mine things at the bottom of the sea as fast as we could on land? How about a craftable dive suit that gives us x number of minutes underwater without having to surface and/or special protection from shark mobs? The sponge has been missing ever since the development versions and corals could be harvested for coral weapons and alchemical ingredients. It would give a purpose to building underwater settlements too! Oceanic biomes could also spawn random archipelagos that have long desired palm trees with coconuts! Crab mobs for food instead of cattle and maybe even occasionally drop exoskeletons or claws for alchemy.
Good ideas. The skyland one would probably have to wait for 1.5+ though. Currently, floating blocks will create dark spots on the ground, however, this often causes lighting glitches and lag.
Certain custom maps have "clouds" made of blocks, which create dark spots for mobs to spawn in (think dark cloud of death). This usually creates lag and glitches. A sky area would do the same.
Hopefully this is an issue that will be fixed come 1.5. I love the canyon idea and the cave biome.
Edit: a small change I'd like to see (to make the terrain more fantastic) would be for large mushrooms to spawn in jungles.
Support mostly for the suggested volcano and the sky biome. I mean a volcano would be a challenge to conquer but that's the fun of it, right? I have extrabiomes, but I would love to see more stuff vanilla

I really like these ideas, I support! Minecraft really needs some more biomes like these, and they are mostly original too! I like them massive caves, those would be cool!
i could try

Thanks! thats a good idea too

Lots of untapped potential here!

thanks!
true
a bluff biome is a GREAT idea. I may put it in.
thanks!
..........ya know what biome i really want? crags. a small biome, like basins, but with big, pointy peaks.
not original? you mean like the idea you just said?
Glad you liked it! I made a sort of mock up screen shot here. Kind of what I saw in my mind, ish.
yeah!
maybe a bit bigger but still nice
