I remember seeing a suggestion in what I think was a thread about improving Minecraft's terrain generation. Said suggestion was that biomes should have variety between them, though the only suggestions they made were having deserts with red or white sand in addition to the normal sand, so they didn't go far in depth. I plan to expand upon the idea. Right now, if you've seen one forest, you've seen them all, so I think every biome should have a few variables.
Swamps
-Mostly land-Mostly water
-Lots of trees-Few trees
-Could spawn slimes, could not spawn slimes
-Only slightly darker than other biomes-Dark to the level it is now
-Has witch huts, lacks witch huts
Deserts
-White, red, or yellow sand/sandstone
-Lots of cacti-Few cacti
-Lots of dead shrubs-No dead shrubs
-Cacti have flowers on top, or are bare on top
-Cacti grow 2-5 blocks tall in this desert instead of always three (In other biomes cacti should always grow to 2)
-Yellow-ish cacti, green cacti
Mountains
-Some trees-No trees
-Snow-capped, not snow-capped
-Have stone at top, have grass at top
It would be better for mountains to be separate from biomes, (Meaning they could generate in almost any biome other than plains or something) but I'll leave these here if Mojang will not consider the idea.
Forests
-Slight variability in tree density
-Lots of birch-No birch
-Lots of tall grass-No tall grass
-Lots of flowers-no flowers
-Only roses-Roses and dandelions-Only dandelions
Plains
-Lots of tall grass-Little tall grass
-Lots of flowers-no flowers
-Only roses-Roses and dandelions-Only dandelions
Beach
-White sand, yellow sand, or gravel
-Palm trees, no palm trees (Palm trees could simply be jungle trees instead)
Jungle
-Lots of big trees-No big trees
-Lots of cocoa beans-No cocoa beans
-Lots of bushes-Few Bushes
You can submit your own ideas, or at least thoughts on the subject.
There should be no biome dedicated to mountains if all biomes are restricted to a certain land-height level. Forests should have mountains, and so should deserts and snow biomes. Heck, even plains should have mountains! There's no reason why they shouldn't.

Hm, I think you're right. I believe that's also been suggested before, but I'll update the thread.
Witch huts are structures, so they aren't really part of the biome. Correct me if I'm wrong. The point of plains is the no trees, no anything part, so, no, mountains shouldn't be part of plains.
Also, they should remove a mountains "biome" because a "biome" is based off of climate factors, not land factors. Mountains should just be mountain ranges that spawn through several biomes, for thousands of blocks.

Plains shouldn't have mountains, but tundras/deserts/jungles/etc should have plains and mountains. Neither plains nor mountains are really biomes.
You know, except for the lack of a couple of biomes, the old terrain generation (1.7 beta) was better. It didn't really follow the biome so exactly for the land, making more of a random land formation that's much more interesting although less realistic. I think that what the OP suggests should be added for sure, but an option for 1.7 beta land generation with the new biomes added should exist.
And, most of all, there needs to be buffer biomes. I came across a place where a jungle, snowy forest, and desert met. WHAT THE HECK??
Mushrooms, No mushrooms
Melons, No melons
Pumpkins, No pumpkins
Ocelots, no ocelots
Giant trees (3x3), no giant trees
Tree branches, no tree branches
Oak leaves, no oak leaves
Oak, Birch AND jungle trees, only jungle

Retired StaffPlains should have large rolling hills, not mountains. But yeah, variety would help a lot.
