In the deep blue sea exists another type of village: the mer-village.
I think it's hard to deny now that new aspects need adding to oceans. While other ideas are awesome too, I thought up a unique one. An Atlantis/ BioShock-esque (Without evil mutated villagers) place would be great: a reason to explore the ocean!
These villages would be on the ocean floor (Derp) and be made of stone and glass houses, where stone is the frame of each house (Like logs are to current ones). Dirt would substitute for roads. catch is, these villagers don't drown and can't swim up, so it's like any other village to them.
There wouldn't be normal houses in these; blacksmith houses wouldn't work well underwater you see. Instead, buildings can go from one to two stories and even have bridges connecting them. Also, air is in the houses and iron doors block the surrounding water for the entrance. Glowstone would become light source of choice.
Another good thing for coming to these villages is that you can trade villagers/ find in chests sponge: a long unimplemented item.
Villagers don't look the same if they live underwater obviously: these new villagers are bluish and have pointy ears. However, the same iron golem should exist to protect them as they are undrownable and don't swim upwards.
This is just a nice and random idea I thought up, I'd like suggestions and your thoughts on this

While this is a very cool idea, how would you get to the villages without drowning? Would a new item allow you to breath underwater? Or would a mermaid give you mouth to mouth constantly?

I guess the buildings beneath would be air filled, with iron doors blocking the water out. It's not hard to get to the ocean floor so if you could get into a house you'd be ok.
