OK, first up. Don't say
"Oh use this mod or that mod!"
"This has been mentioned a million times already!"
I know, I just want a reply on my own topic what you guys think.
Now, we all know (well, specifically people who make skins) how
frustrating it is to get a skin right with the pixels that we have.
My suggestion is to double the pixel size for the players skins
so we have more 'space' to put more detail and awesomeness
into our skins. People will probably hate on me because they
want to stay to the originality that Minecraft is, which I agree on
completely, but I say why not change one (major?) part of it.
And if you want, you can download some skins I have made HERE
No, I perfer the lower texture resolution, and I don't like mods. I don't care what you do to your Minecraft though.
There could be two kinds: The lower texture skins, and the higher texture skins. You would download the skins, if you wanted low-res, you would download it and use it like normal. Time to fix another problem!
The resolution would be two times higher, which would make the game twice as laggy for every player on smp.
If you were using a 16X skin, you would download two skins: one non-16X, and one 16X. there would be an option for each player to see the non 16X, (to reduce lag) or 16X. That should fix everything except for the people on theese forums who whine about every change!

I agree with this guy. But have only the higher res textures. If you wanna have the old style, just colour in 4 times as many pixels
Or... I could just enjoy the game as it is now (in this regard) and not have to do anything, and leave it to those that want it different to make it different for themselves.

So basically a more "hidden" way of saying "I't shouldn't be changed, if you want it go get a mod!" Sorry, that won't pass.
Can we please dissociate the term "lag" from 'a drop in framerate'.. they don't mean the same thing.. And can we also stop saying everything will cause lag; doubling the player-texture resolution would take like a trillionth of a second longer than normal.

Please stop crying. I can't interrogate you while you're crying.

doubling anything to do with visuals will make the game laggier.
and "I need to find my Dragons!" get it? you should...
False. Doubling the player texture resolution is the same as doubling the amonut of pixels in the terrain.png - the game would be much laggier. And on larger smp servers, the lagg would become unbearable.
Actually doubling the resolution is quadrupling the amount of pixels... and no, the terrain.png (which is made of hundreds of thousands of pixels) is constantly being used to give textures to hundreds of thousands of blocks. You can count the number of pixels on a characters skin; they don't compare at all.
Plus doubling the resolution on the default texture pack shouldn't cause 'lag' in the first place....unless you are below the game minimum specs or something.
And an SMP server that can't handle a doubled res skin probably couldn't handle another person walking around loading chunks anyways.

Pass what and what rules are we playing by again? It works for me. I've made my opinion known, so I'll leave it at that.

The lag argument is a band-wagon at is point.
Not noticeably 'laggier', by any human standards anyways
and she found her dragons
