It seems a lot of people are starting to grow attached to the theme that witches are responsible for the undead and monsters in the overworld.
I was thinking, what if the developers carried on with this theme by having witches throw spawn eggs for zombies and skeletons along with their potions?
Or what if witches (or their huts) have some kind of magical rod/torch that does what a torch does but in opposite: darken nearby blocks instead of lighting them? This would allow mobs to spawn around the huts or witches daytime or nighttime.
I've never heard anything about witches being responsible for undead mobs. Are you just making up a rumor so people will support your idea?
This
Link or I won't believe there is a rumor.

I hate people who complain. I hate spiders. I hate people who own an Xbox One. I hate people who like sandbox games. I hate people who like first person shooters. I hate people who like explosions. I hate people who like video games. I hate people who are hateful. I hate people that don't like spam. I hate people who like cake. I hate people who type in proper grammar and spell words properly on the internet. I hate hypocrites.

Perhaps I should rephrase. A lot of people are *speculating* that witches are responsible for undead mobs. I don't think Mojang will try to incorporate this into some sort of plotline, nor should they even try. But take a look in the many threads about how people want to "fix" witches and many posters there have stated this is the story that comes up in their imaginations.
I love the dark torch I want it craftable in game I also want witches to place and drop spawn eggs. Bats should also spawn in witch huts. The spawn egg thing would be a rare drop and a way to get spawn eggs ingame.

Some people might be speculating, but their speculation is based on no evidence what so ever. The witches are simply aggressive, hermetic herbalists, I don't see how that could cause a worldwide zombie apocalypse*. No support, seems completely out of character.
*It's more likely endermen or the enderdragon, I think.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...
