It's very likely that Mojang will rerpogram the village generation to have an actual anvil instead of the two conjoined stone slabs that were suposed to be an anvil.
Or you could trade with other villagers and get emeralds the easier way :/
It still requires work for you to grow/breed/harvest the materials. The repair function for anvils is incredibly powered that's balanced by the amount of iron required and the number of levels is enormous. Now, levels by themselves aren't enough, so basically what's being asked is that you can, for (technically) free, never have your pickaxes and enchantments break, ever again. That's overpowered, regardless of how you look at it.

Anyways, this would be a good idea if two restrictions were placed:
-The anvils can't have a real good chance of spawning in a village. I mean, despite being added in 1.8, I think they can't all be familiar with the new snapshots and such.
-If they do spawn, they should usually be Slightly Damaged or maybe Very Damaged sometimes.
You need to find emeralds to buy it, and emeralds are hard as hell to find.
So you're suggesting that the way to make money in RL, is to dig in the ground tell you find metal, mint money, and then go buy stuff? Clever way to break the system but honestly way too much effort. Try getting a job.
Can you break an anvil and get the iron back? If so it might not matter how damaged the anvil is if you can destroy it and craft another one. Just sayin'

The Anvil has limited uses, so it's hardly forever. If it was already damaged it doesn't seem that unreasonable that it be there. Besides that, I normally don't have an enchanting table before I have over 55 iron anyway. further more not every village even has a Smithy. Given that I don't really feel it's so overpowered.

You can break it but it just drops as an Anvil. Given that the damage is built into it, that wouldn't work.
Its not over-powered.
Villagers can sell you iron and diamond items.
And if there is a blacksmith in the village, there is also the blacksmith's chest that can even have diamonds in it.
Support.
Couldn't you just steal the blacksmith's anvil? No cost to you?

Hardly forever, yes. A large number of uses? Yes, very much so. And limited uses still don't make up for the fact that enchantments are retained and even put together if you repair two enchanted items.
It doesn't balance.

From what I understand, the price in levels is quite extensive. You seem to disagree with the balance of the Anvil as a whole rather than the idea of village spawned anvils. If it's overpowered they'll re-balance by increasing the level cost.

or -1 me with your mind. One of them is less frustrating.
