So this a thread on adding seasons in a way that will work. It will aso add new weather instead of just rain and snow and storms. I know some of these ideas have been suggested, but not in my way.
Seasons-
Seasons change after around 10 Minecraft days. After the day amount has been reached, it will change seasons when you go to bed or exit the map. Seasons affect weather, animals mating, and plant growth. Taiga, tundra, deserts, and jungles are not affected by seasons.
Spring: Spring is the season you will most likely spawn in when you start a level. It is just like normal Minecraft, but plants grow faster. Also, animals can mate naturally (uncommon). Rain and storms are common during this time. In spring, there is a chance a sappling will spawn on forest floors, but not that commonly. Also tree leaves regen if gone from trunk.
Summer: The next most common spawning season. It is like normal Minecraft, but trees have a little darker leaves. Storms happen less frequently but still pretty common. Animals can uncommonly still mate. Plant growth is normal.
Autumn: Autumn is a uncommon season when you spawn. This season is unique. Leaf blocks turn red, yellow, and orange. Then the leaf blocks have particles like snow coming from them. But it would be leaves falling. Plant growth is really slown down, and animals cant mate. It is uncommon for rain.
Winter: Winter is a rare season to spawn in. Everywhere all natural leaves decay from trees. Snow is common now. Growing plants are stunted anywhere, or killed unless by heat source. Animals cant mate in this season. Snow covers the ground everywhere.
Weather and Effects-
There are new weather and weather features too. Weather will affect blocks, you, and the landscape. They are affected by the seasons. A new weather system will also be added. This will allow different weather to happen at once, and not on the entire map at the same time.
COMMON WEATHER-
Rain- Spring, summer, autumn
Snow: Winter
Sprinkle: Spring, summer, autumn. Light rain
Sandstorm (deserts): Spring, summer, autumn, winter. Fast sand paricals blow fast and damage you.
Fog: Spring, summer, autumn. Thick fog that is like tiny render distance. Happens mostly only in mornings.
Lightning storm: Spring, summer. No rain, but a lot of lightning.
Drought: Summer. No rain for long time, plants stop growing or die. Most be at least one block away from water to live and grow.
RARE WEATHER-
Tornado: Summer. Large swirling cloud that blows mobs and some weaker blocks. Damages some landscape.
Thanks for reading! I will be updating frequently. So please comment and +1!
Flood: Spring, summer. Water blocks rise on ground, stay there for a few days.
Freeze: Winter. All water blocks freeze to ice. Mobs get damaged from staying outside.
ULTRA RARE WEATHER-
Hurricane: Spring, summer. Large tornado only over oceans. Completely damages landscape and moves blocks with less power than stone.
Tsunami: Spring, summer. Giant moving wave comes and covers landscape. After it is done fish items spawn everywhere and you might find a squid.
Seasons-
Seasons change after around 30 Minecraft days. After the day amount has been reached, it will change seasons when you go to bed or exit the map. Seasons affect weather, animals mating, and plant growth. Taiga, tundra, deserts, and jungles are not affected by seasons.
Seasons would completely kill the point of biomes.
Not to mention the massive lag you would get when your entire world starts generating saplings everywhere or starts covering the world with snow.

I like the idea but agree that it would cause Major Lag and if this was implemented, I think the minimum system specs would have to go up for the game
It wouldn't cause a lot of lag. Why do people seem to think it would?
But, please, search next time.
And, LeoOfVinci, that's because it has. The Seasons Mod

If I said I'd do something and haven't, please remind me; I didn't lie, I just forgot.

I agree but i think there is even worse things that would happen because of this, for example, did you even think about all the leaves decaying from trees in winter, it would look ugly just having stacks of wood everywhere and wood will be non - renewable, but apart from that it would do massive damage to the world flooding and tsunami's, it would destroy houses, flood caves and obsidian over lava pits also the added fog is what render distance is for.
I still think this is a good idea but it needs a lot more thought put into it

Do you know how long that is XD
I know, but imagine in servers
Sure, I see your point, but maybe the default time of a season should be around 5 minecraft days, but can be toggled. Sounds good?
Can we say ten?
Other than that, like the idea but some of the storms n' stuff could cause massive lag to people that have craptops.

Well any map changing happens when you sleep or exit, where it will show the generating level screen and be updated.
