Well I tapped teleport into the search bar and nothing came up, so here goes.
Teleports:
I love the idea of teleports and would like to see them enter the game some how. If we can teleport to a different dimension, why not within the main dimension alone? I have heard others seeking much the same and I have even searched for mods with very little success (very few results and not satisfied with the ones I found)
The way I envision this is with the re-introduction of crying obsidian. Blocks could be crafted with obsidian and lapis lazuli (I've seen this part suggested elsewhere). The portals could be made with a doorway of crying obsidian of 4x3 or larger if needs be with a key block in the base of the portal.
By key block I mean any block of our choosing. For example I might have a portal that uses a block of sand in its base as a key, when I walk through the portal, it will transport me to the nearest other portal that I have constructed that also contains a block of sand in its base.
If anyone thinks this would make the game unbalanced perhaps it could be made harder or more costly by having a full block of diamond or some such that is attached to the side of the portal and the key block can sit on top of the diamond block. Whatever it takes.
Torch hats:
Another idea I had when I first started playing MC was to have a miners helmet with a light in it. This is "MINE craft" after all. I found it became a little arduous having to constantly place torches everywhere, especially if I didn't want those torches to stay there and thus have to remove them all later.
If I could run around caverns emitting my own light source It would make me a happy little cave dweller.
One again if this seems a little unbalanced, perhaps the crafting recipe for such a helmet could be made ludicrously expensive. Lets say, the normal recipe for a gold helmet adorned with redstone torches at its top and glow stone at its centre. Or it could limited by having its own GUI in the likes of a furnace or furnace cart and require fuel to remain active... Or both.
I like it, but you will have to remove one of your suggestions and make its own thread sadly.
I know a lot of people say moving light souces are bad, but its possible. Just think the light is coming from the block where you head was, and when you move it transports to the next block.

It's well thought out, and considerably better than most of the teleportation suggestions I see, but I just don't want it available in my world, or the servers on which I play. I can imagine countless abuses, and an unmitigated level of potential issues with people using the same 'keystones' and getting portal-crossed on SMP.
Pith Helmet: It won't happen until the rewrite of the lighting engine and potentially the rendering engine. When it becomes possible for dynamic lighting, then I'll give it my full support.
I don't think dynamic lighting will ever happen. The amount of players getting horrible performance even on the best PC's are though the roof - and these are just simple chunk and light updates we're talking about. The simple static lighting that we have can be extremely quirky, so the time and programming needed to perfect the dynamic kind is too much. Torches already help mark what part of caves you visited.
Imagine how buggy and laggy moving lights could get if a bunch of people were wearing light helmets at once in multiplayer.

Hmm, yes I didn't think about that.
Perhaps It could be one of the configurable options for SMP where the server admin has control over whether or not they can be used at all. And if anyone can create them or just the admin. I play more single player and creative mode where such issues would be less of a problem. They could also be a lot of fun in a completed adventure mode map though, imagine the kind of maps and puzzles that could be built with the inclusion of portals.
