potions- draw back using a splash potion can hurt you too and can be expensive to create
bows draw back you need to charge it and need good accuracy
swords draw back takes more time to swing then a fist
fist draw back dose little damage
enchantments draw back none
Reason? you could say diamonds are rare? no lets admit it theres tons of ways to get diamonds and they are not that rare i when you mine you only need 5 diamonds to get all the ingredients for an enchment table if you find a mob spawner then you don't need to worry about XP if you find 2 cows and 1 sugar cane you don't need to worry about book shelfs
so with that being said its way to easy to create god gear there needs to be some kind of draw back maybe a curse? like for a example if you get fire 2 knockback 2 and sharpness 4 on a diamond sword thats going to be very over powered maybe when you hold that sword you loose hunger faster or move slower or the tool/ammor breaks faster
your mad now saying this guys stupid enchants are made to make your tool better well dose a high powered diamond that makes your enemys fly away on fire and deals up to 10 hearts that loses 2-5 durabilty per hit worse then a normal diamond sword? or a 1 hit kill bow that takes longer to charge worse then a normal bow? a pick ax that gives you 1-4 diamonds per or that mines slower then a normal pick ax worse then a normal pick ax?
if you said the normal tool was better to any of these your a troll
lets say your level 30 and enchant 30 stone swords you just basicly upgraded 30 stone tools to iron.. so i would think curses would be more commen at lower levels
that all i really have to say about this but i am sure jeb/dinner bone can build on this idea
I don't even need to read this thread:
List of Drawbacks:
1) Enchantments are selected at random
2) They cost a fair amount of EXP
3) You need AT LEAST 5 diamonds to begin enchanting
4) Repaired items lose enchantments
5) Some enchantments make the durability of tools much lower
That's more than enough.
1. high levels = dosent matter
2. grinders
3.daimonds who cares
4.why would you need to?
5.false
swords draw back takes more time to swing then a fist
Err... No. Every melee attack is the same speed. It does matter if you are using a fist, a sword, or a block of dirt.
And enchantments do have a draw back. The random nature of their assigning and the amount of work that is required to actually enchant a piece of equipment is a drawback. All of the items you list, besides potions, are relatively cheap and easy to get, enchantments are not.
You argue that you can use XP grinders, but you seem to ignore the fact that these grinders don't actually build themselves. The building of these grinders is a drawback to enchantments, if you decide to use them. And even with XP grinders you still have to grind to get XP. That's also work and counts as a drawback for enchantments. Not to mention that due to the randomness of enchanting, if you don't get the enchantment you want you have to go back to grinding which means more work. You are, by no means, guaranteed to get what you want when you click that enchantment button.
If you want a drawback then I suggest 2 things, either A: suggest this as an addition to hard core mode or B: ask for this as a mod.
You see not everyone is that good at mining. Where I may find 9 diamonds in 2 days. Jack may waste a month mining and find nothing (note: he either needs a better mining system, or minecraft needs a system that makes the same number of ores spawn in every chunk). Also not everyone knows how to set up mob grinders (If you are one of them look at my tutorial video here: WARNING my voice hadn't broken when I made this) and finding a spawner is difficult.
