We all have heard of bleeding obsidian, a block that was originally planned, but's purpose was replaced by a bed. Jeb has hinted at bringing it back, but only as a decoration block. But why not something else? Why not a teleporter?
How would you achieve teleportation with bleeding obsidian?
Teleporting using bleeding obsidian would be simple on small scale. Simply craft two blocks, place them anywhere, and activate them at the same time with redstone. If they are not activated during the exact same tick, both will explode the tick after they are activated. The explosion is half as powerful as TNT. On small scale, this is quite easy, however on large scale, it can become more difficult. Every 16th block you need a repeater, and every 300th you need another person standing there. If the timings are off by even one tick: BOOM! Yeah, redstone's easy to get, and if you take the time to set up the circuit and take care of the timing, then sure, you can create quick transportation. However, in singleplayer, you can't use it to teleport yourself more than about 300 blocks in 1 trip, because anything outside that range won't be rendered.
Once you have a system established, just stand on the bleeding obsidian, and after about 15 seconds of the same effect when you stand in a nether portal, you will be teleported to the other block.
If multiple bleeding obsidian blocks are activated at the same time, you will be teleported to a random one from a list of blocks that were activated at the same time the one you are stepping on was activated.
Also, just like beds, when used in the nether, bleeding obsidian explodes.
Crafting Bleeding Obsidian
Crafting Bleeding Obsidian is quite simple. (It use to use lapis, but due to complaints, I changed it to ghast tears)
Why This is not Overpowered
This is not overpowered because, well first of all, because it requires obsidian to make. Obsidian is also needed for access to the nether. Yes, the nether was originally a place that could be used for quick travel, but with recent updates, it's been given a different purpose. Next, you have to establish a long redstone wire with some type of timing system to make sure the blocks are activated at the same time. This can take a lot of work, mining, and so on. Plus, building one that sends you over 300 blocks in one trip is impossible in singleplayer, so massive distances are both tedious because of how many people you need to run them, how much work you need to do to get them both to activate at the same time, and so on. The exploding-in-the-nether idea was come up with to keep people from being able to 2400 blocks in one trip by using the nether.
Please feel free to give ideas you have on how to improve this idea.
I like this idea. I think it should be diamonds instead of lapis, or maybe ghast tears (Crying Obsidian) instead of lapis, since lapis is easy to come by. I like the teleportation thing though.
EDIT: Not the explosion thing exactly, but I like the idea. Ticks are very quick (1/20th of a second I think) so it would be tough because lag could put it off by a couple ticks. So maybe if it isn't activated within 1 miniute of eachother, theres a 1/4 chance it will explode 1/4 the size of TNT, the others is it just dosn't work.
Well lapis ore is as rare as diamond, however you get more from it. Lapis needs better uses. Ghast tears or diamonds would add more difficulty to it though.
Anywho, no support. It'd ruin the fast travel purpose for Nether Portals, which I highly enjoy.
Some people call it crying obsidian, some call it bleeding obsidian. I don't think this would get rid of the idea of the nether being a fast way around, because this can be more difficult to do. If you establish a nether tunnel, a tunnel between two places through the nether, you only have to make the tunnel one eigth of the distance between the two places. My idea allows for faster transportation, but by sacrificing that 1/8th of the distance. You also have to worry about timing. Plus, in singleplayer, you can only go about 300 blocks in one trip, while with the nether it's possible (but extrememly time consuming) to go so far that if you try to go back to the overworld, you crash the game because the game can't handle your coordinates in the variable size given.
