I have recently been researching weather minecraft would ever allow customizable music. And I discovered something: It's already possible! To change the background classical music Minecraft plays along to would be like anarchy! But changing the music that records play is another option. See, my idea is kinda like a texture pack. You don't HAVE to use one, but sometimes it increases the quality of the game. No offence to C14, and although I really like his "ward" disk, A friend once told me that Minecraft's music sounded like freeware. Not nice to say, but he DID have a point...
So my idea: add customizable background/record music to Minecraft. You might say, "Wouldn't C14 get angry that you're trying to change his stake on fame in Minecraft?". Well, did Junkboy get angry when they began to make texture packs? No! Who knows? Mojang might even support this idea someday! I already have one music pack ready for releasal; as of now, I'm testing it in the actual game. I will edit this later and put installation instructions and a download link here. Feel free to make your own as well, and post it on this thread! Here are some instructions on how to do this:
Go to your .minecraft folder
Go to recourses
go to streaming
Copy streaming
Choose any mp3 music you want to put into your pack, and rename them, extensions and all, to the files of your choice
drag and replace the music files
replace the the old "streaming" file with your new one
Launch minecraft, spawn/craft a jukebox and one of the edited records, and see how it works!
I would appreciate any comments you have on my suggestion.
EDIT: My first music pack will be delayed due to having to craft my own music. Should be ready in a few weeks; perhaps sooner
EDIT: DARN! I've got to figure out a way of getting the .mp3s to work with the .mus s.
Yeah, but there's one problem. There's a LOT of music piracy out there. And since the files could be converted back into mp3s theoretically, using existing songs might are out of the question. People could mistake my intentions.
So I'm going to spend a little time crafting a pack using Garageband, a wonderfull little application. It may take a while, so my first PUBLIC music pack will be delayed somewhat. But don't let that discourage you from making your own with the instructions in my last post!
I'm going to need a little help here to get my idea going:
Does anyone have any knowledge of .mus files and how to convert regular music files to them? Once I know this for sure, I can begin to make the actual music for a sample pack. See, the problem is, every time I try to replace the music, the default music comes back up. Any suggestions?

First of all, it's C418, not C14. And what the hell is this comment meant to mean? You think C418 found some freeware on the web and said "I'm going to say this is my music and no-one will ever know, lololololol." Maybe you should take a look at this page: http://c418.bandcamp...ft-volume-alpha

Why the hell would Jnkboy get angry? He doesn't do any work for Minecraft. The textures are done by the developers themselves, the only exception being the paintings, which were done by kz (Kristoffer Zetterstrand).
As for your idea, 'Sound packs', are already an idea the developers have. Not only that, but C418 is going to make one himself that will feature all the current 'old' Minecraft sounds (some of the current sounds are changing in the next update).

I did not imply that C418 just took freeware music off the web. It clearly is good and original music. I just said that a friend had once TOLD me it sounds like freeware. As in, it could be a little more interesting. And I was under the assumption that Junkboy was the lead art developer... Wait, then what does he do at mojang anyway if he doesn't texture the default art? And if the mojang group is on the job, maybe I will just let them work on the idea. Or wait for the next update. Or both.
Minecraft does not play classical music. I have been a musician for about 2 years before I decided it wasn't my thing, and here's what I have to say:
Classical music is THE MOST boring music you will ever hear. The music that minecraft uses is... well... I don't know.
I agree. It really doesn't sound like classical music. But you have to admit, the background music is boring.
