Lots of us are complaining about the broken trading system. I am going to suggest some things that could greatly improve the basic training mechanism we have right now.
MORE MATERIALS TO TRADE WITH
I have some ideas that can 'complicate' the trading system. Not really difficult like, such as java scripting, but a bigger range with more needed materials to trade with. I'm thinking at least three 'currencies' to trade with:
The original, green Emerald
The unimplemented, red Ruby
The new, blue Sapphire
And here is the trading concept:
Rubies buy all food as well as wheat (EG: bread, meat, melon slices, cookies, etc)
Sapphires buy all unenchanted armor, weapons AND ingots (coal and diamond are considered ingots)
Emeralds buy books, paper, compasses and clocks. Emeralds are also 'worth' more than the other gems, so can be traded well for rubies or sapphires
Also, epic items (such as enchantment tales, brewing stands and eye of ender)
Both of these new gems ( ruby and sapphire ) could have their own ore and block. They would probably be copies of emeralds but with bright red or deep navy blue colors.
BUYING AND SELLING
Whats been bugging me is that you have to go a different villager to buy and trade. I'm thinking that a villager (any class) should have tabs to see what they're buying, selling and exchanging (emeralds for rubies or sapphires and visa versa)
ALSO
Have you ever noticed how boring villagers are? They should have souls when their trading such as
Just a thought, but I think it would just add a more 'relaxing' air to trading don't you?
ORGANIZED TRADING
Okay, so now that we have variety of 'currency' lets get down to the core of good trading: the trader and it's merchandise. I'm going to clean up the trade, according my opinion. I put them in spoilers for people who actually want to see the wall of text
SELLS
Brewing Stand - 20 Emerald, 15 Sapphire, 25 Rubies
Eye of Ender - 10 Emeralds
1-3 Bottle O' Enchanting - 5 Emeralds, 1 Ruby
2-4 Glowstone - 5 Emeralds
Whew, that was a lot to type and read. I hope you support and help add on how to make trading better. I would really like it if you could make concept pictures of sapphires and rubies and their blocks and ores!
PS: This is my first post
THANKS TO
BRINJAL66 - For including the idea of adding texts to the trading GUI as well as providing a concept picture!!
It sounds quite cool, but I really don't see why we need more currency, emeralds are fine. What needs to be fixed is the ridiculous prices! I also think they need a better GUI http://www.minecraft...ew-trading-gui/ (If you like this idea, you may add it, but give credit!)
I love your idea, and I know the prices are a bit stupid, I'll fix them tomorrow. But why wouldn't you like more currency?
Also they should have a special type of villager that only shows ups every so often and can have rare things. But only has a limited supply. I also think the Villagers need to interact with each other more such as trade with each other and eat or sleep.
If you like my idea, I would appreciate t if you left a comment there to help it get noticed! The reason I don't want more currency is that unless I'm missing something, all it does is make trading more complicated.
I did at the bottom with big letters.
Well, that is kind of the point, so people don't just get a bunch of emeralds to buy diamond armor, they need to find/earn another currency to pay for them as well as another currency for food.
This 'nerfs' the trading by somewhat, so that is why I included it.

I wouldn't say no for a special, but your other suggestion is useless to the player and would be VERY hard to code
While I support giving the villagers some personality, introducing different currencies just needlessly complicates things.
