I think a good idea for multiplayer mode would be adding a vendor or/and some type of currency. Having vendors that can be placed in your server so anyone can access it whenever they are online. You would place whatever object you wanted to sell into the vendor and then put a price or what you want to trade it for. Creating a form of currency that everyone can use between each others vendors. Maybe with the currency being found in dungeons, villages, strongholds, temples. This would be a great opportunity for starting populated towns/cities.
The only thing stopping us from just building something like this is the lack of a block like the allocator. And that has other applications as well, therefore it is the better addition between it and some sort of "vendor" block.

Emeralds as currency... meh. Bring on the gold pieces! Gold needs more uses anyway (not really but it sounded good) and of course gold would have to be rarified quite a bit. I envision them stamped with a little creeper face. And gold pieces just feel "right" as a currency in an adventure game.. emeralds, not so much.

Gold being used as currency has been done a million times in games. Emeralds bring in some originality along with a new ore. I can almost picture Jeb sitting at his computer thinking to himself, "I wonder how many players are gonna complain that Emeralds will be currency and not silver or gold?"

Exactly. Emeralds is more original than gold, because more people would think of gold as currency rather than emeralds. Good point.

I'm still using Windows 7.
I said this. Two days later, my computer's motherboard melted down and I had to get a new one with Windows 8.
Irony in the first degree.
