I thought of something. Lapis Lazuli ore drops the Lapis Lazuli. (Blue Dye) You craft one blue dye into one Bluestone Dust. It works just like redstone, but will not connect to it. Both can take signals from buttons, levers, etc. However, bluestone won't take a signal from a Redstone Torch. Bluestone repeaters and torches will be necessary. You can also craft a Bluestone Dust next to a Redstone dust to make "Purple Dust" This acts as a combination. It can carry signals over from bluestone to redstone and vice versa. It also can take signals from both kinds of torches, and can connect to both repeaters. So Red connects to red machinery, all that connects to purple dust which connects to Blue and blue machinery. There would also be things like bluestone lamps that are dark blue and then light up to ice blue. Blue booster tracks and detector tracks would also exist. The names would be changed to 'Redstone powered rail" or "Bluestone detector rail" which would only give out bluestone or purple current. The blue lamps would also give of blue "moonlight", as would a glowing bluestone repeater. This is a rather long suggestion, but I hope you all like it.
Yes, if you had ever worked with redstone you would know that it is difficult to work with in small areas. Lapis is as common as redstone, so this offers a good alternative too.
