It is quite a pain to get squids to aquariums then after a while they just despawn. I know I tried that in survival. So why not have a way to make them not despawn?
Of course, squids can respawn meaning if they wont despawn, it will create clogging to mob systems and other things that require water and use entities that collide with mobs. So there should be a limit. Someway that the squids still respawn and despawn, have non-despawning variants, and still fits Minecraft.
This idea came to my head:
"All other passive mobs can breed...So why not squids?"
This gave me more ideas:
-Maybe, baby squids can be used as decorations for aquariums and not despawn.
-Maybe, baby squids can only be accessed through finding two adult squids and breeding them
-Maybe, baby squids should not spawn naturally.
So here is the idea:
Baby squids do not spawn naturally. You need to find two squids and have two raw fish and give it to the two squids. After they breed, it will create a baby squid that does not drop anything and follows the player that was responsible for the breeding. After getting a baby squid, you can hook it up to your fishing rod then you can go to land and your new pet will teleport to you once you come across water (not land , but rather water.) Once your pet is in the place where you want it to be and not teleport to you, unhook it and it is there forever.
Other things that could be added:
-Glass blocks with water
--Can only be occupied by one baby aquatic mob at a time
--When one is available, any baby aquatic mob in hooked up to their owner who is near the block will cause the baby mob to teleport to the block and freely roam inside
--When broken, it will act like an ice block and put water in its place, but also freeing the baby aquatic mob
Doesn't sound bad, but I never had any intention of making an aquarium. The point is with squid, their collision point is very bugged. In fact, their tentacles go even through blocks. I had an underwater base for some time and encountered this over and over.

You want to be a dragon? Well, then you need to have wings, a passion to hoard, and have a deadly breath.
Oh, and did I forgot to tell you dragons are extremely territorial? ROAWR >:)
Squids despawn because they tend to sink to the bottom of oceans and then stay there, near impossible to get to. Before they despawned, they were very popular for Aquariums. It does kinda suck it's not possible anymore.

I like the idea but it needs work, I think that squids should be breedable with raw fish and they should not despawn, but a pet squid sounds sorta strang for me. And yes, I never want to even TRY to get a squid in an aquarim.
