I think it should be easier to play with friends on minecraft. They should make a "Friends" box. You send friend requests and invites to your world. Just type there name and it sends there account a friend request. After you friend them you could invite them to your game. Instead of making a server and all that work. I think this make it way easier.
While I totally agree with the idea of a friends list and being able to host private Minecraft worlds for a handful of people at the touch of a button, port-forwarding and having to get a static IP would probably still be an issue that the game probably wouldn't be able to sort out for you.
The game cannot handle portforwarding for you, and the static IP is just a whole other issue that relies completely on your ISP.
