A Mailbox would act like an Ender Chest with a send function, all Mailboxes would be linked so if you forget a Mailbox in the wilderness somewhere, or you have multiple houses, you don't have to walk to it, and your mail remains private.
A Mailbox could hold 18 incoming Letters, and another 6 Letters to send. Any Letters in the Send boxes will automatically be sent to the recipient Mailboxes at nightfall, preventing players from spamming others with tons of Letters by enforcing a 20-minute (one Minecraft day (mineday?)) gap between mailings and a limit of 6 letters per mineday.
If the recipient doesn't exists, has never placed a Mailbox or his Mailbox is full, the Letter is not sent.
In Singleplayer, it'd simply function as a decorative Ender Chest, since there's nobody else to send Letters to.
A Mailbox could perhaps be crafted of 5 Obsidian, an Ender Pearl and one Fence, or perhaps simply an Ender Chest and one Fence.
Letters could contain short messages (Like a book, but only 1-2 pages) and you'd also have the option to attach an item as a 'package' to send to the recipient.
When the recipient opens a Letter with a package, the item will be placed into their inventory or on the ground if there is no room.
A Letter could perhaps be crafted of an Ink Sac, a Feather, and some Paper, all common items that are easy to find.
This would allow players to communicate with each other when they aren't there, players with an excess of resources can sell them to players over the mail, or send gifts to friends without having to run all the way from one house to the next and back.
Server owners that do not use Teleportation mods would find this especially useful.
