Hey everyone, Anhrak here with another suggestion...
Well, actually I want this to not be "my" suggestion, but "our" suggestion.
The subject of this suggestion is Lapis Lazulli. What is Lapis Lazulli? Lapis Lazulli is an ore that can be obtained below a depth of 32 blocks. It is pretty rare to find, less than gold, but yields as much as redstone does in one ore. Not to mention, the spawnrate of each ore at each spot is far less than any other ore known, except Emerald ofcourse.
Lapis Lazuli has barely ANY use. It has only two uses:
- To use it as dye
- To make a lapis lazuli block.
Now that, is absolutely it. I think, regarding the effort to get it, it should have FAR more uses, because after having used once, we have tons of Lapis Lazuli to collect dust in our chests.
Ok, let's keep our heads together and see what uses we can come by.
My suggestion is Jewelry. In real life, Lapis is also used for Jewelry. I have some ideas to add as jewelry:
Using Mounted Diamond and Mounted EmeraldMounted Diamond, you can make the following jewelry:
- Belt Pieces (belts)
- Unstrung Amulets (Amulets)
- Plates (Bracelets)
- Shards (Circlets).
All jewelry can be enchanted, but with a maximum of the old 50. Aside from known (selective) enchantments, there are some new enchantments:
- Strength
- LifeSafer
- Stamina
- Herbalism
- Wisdom
- Evasiveness
- Charm
- Agility
- Amphobic
- Accuracy
- Awareness
- Glistering
More info about this suggestion is in the suggestions list.

All jewelry can be enchanted, but with a maximum of the old 50
The jewelry enchantments:
Diamond Amulets and Emerald amulets can be used for special enchantments, and are worn on the body slot. All do not offer any armour protection, but degrade as fast as gold. New enchantments (or already-existing enchantments) can be put on this amulet:
- Strength (same as slash) I or II, adds extra damage to any mob, with a bow or sword.
- Lifesafer I, any final attack that is being dealt on you has a 10% chance of being endured on only 1/2 heart left, leaving the wearer just alive. Environmental hazards and falling do NOT count.
- Stamina I, II or III, when running or jumpnig, your hunger bar will decrease less quickly.
- Herbalism, Potions will have a 10% longer duration time when drank.
Diamond Circlets and Emeralds Circlets can be worn on the head slot. They work for enchantments, and do not offer any protection, but degrade as fast as gold. Some are new, some ore already-existing.
- Aquatic I, II (rare!) decreases currents affectivity and decreases breath rate. Mining speed is not affected.
- Wisdom I, II, III, there comes a higher chance of yielding a bit more xp from mining or monsters.
- Charm I, mobs on daytime, except from spawners, will not attack you. This includes monsters in caves.
- Evasiveness I, II or III, there is a chance that you will block any attack at you, without the cost of a use. You 'evade' the hit.
Diamond belts or Emerald belts can be worn on the leg slot. Also work for enchantments, and do not offer any protection.
- Agility I, II. Also offers better stamina, but increases jumping height for a bit, 1.2 block each tier of enchantment
- Amphobic I, II, III, gives better movement through water or other speed-affecting blocks/areas. III even removes a 'slipping' effect on ice.
- Fire Protection I, II, III. As known, fire does less damage or you can't even get ignited at all. Lava still remains a hazard.
Diamond/Emerald leg Bracelets are worn in the 'shoes' slot. However, they offer rather neat, but rare, enchantments.
- Accuracy I, II. When attacking, there is a low chance you will deal a hit of double the damage.
- Awareness I, II, III. Reveals mobs that are 8 blocks away with a blurry transparant shape. II even detects ores 8 blocks away up to Gold, and III (very rare!) can even detect up to diamond and emerald nearby. However, those can only be spotted in a 4 blocks away range.
- Wisdom I, II, III. Works as a fortune-enchantment for other blocks. When wearing this, there is a very low chance you will yield more wood, sand, clay (only II+), or Obsidian (III)
- Glistering I, II. Gives a small light around you, light-level 4 only. Tier II also makes friendly mobs follow you, and makes ocelot hunting a bit easier.
Aside from these enchantments, all jewelry have chances for Durability I, II, III, IV or V, Protection I, II, III. Also, emerald jewelry has higher enchantment rate than diamond.
Deonyi's Suggestion: Relics Deonyi's suggestion for Lapis Lazuli is being a resource for relics with each bonus on it. Relics can be found in a new structure: Temples. Temples look like a room with Stone Pillars, and a placeable statue cracked statue on it. Temples are rare to find, but can be found on the surface, only in Hills biomes (Snow Hills, Forest Hills, Extreme Hills, Desert Hills).
The cracked statues can be renovated and used as a very usefull tool for mining or protection, but rather take some effort to restore them.
For one statue, you need a statue base and a renovated relic.
Legend:
L = Lapis

Statues can be placed anywhere and turn into a cracked statue + statue base once mined (unless using Silk Touch). Every statue has a special ability, depending on the kind of relic you've restored. However, the relic doesn't hold out forever. Every type of relic has a certain ammount of uses, before it will degrade to a cracked statue again. So you will keep the kind of relic. The duration can be checked by right-clicking on it. The following relics are examples:
Dragon Helm Relic - All ores mined in a 8x8 radius of the relic are instantly molten, usefull for gold and iron.
Soul Sandals - A Hazardous relic. Just as a spawner, it will summon skeletons or zombies that are invincible to fire/lava. Those skeletons do NOT wear any items (as of 1.4) and do not leave xp (xp boosting is ment to be unable in 1.4). It can spawn only 80 mobs before degrading.
Ruby Heart - This will heal any creature (even mobs!) within a 8x8 radius at the normal regeneration rate. At players, this will count up with the normal regeneration.
Flower - All vegetation withing a 8x8x8 radius will yield more crops. For every crop harvested, one use will disappear. A free bonus is that all crops will grow faster an
Lightning Bolt - When storming, the statue can attract lightning in a 16x16 field. If lightning even hits the statue, it produces a 'magical bolt' that can be used as an item for instantly growing, furnace burning recourse (as good as one lava bucket) or a weapon, same as a potion of slowness (paralized). Each relic can only yield 25 lightning bolts before degrading, but only when hit, one duration point disappears.
@Lunchguy, it never feels in place if a very general thing of minecraft would be implemented on my own concept. As many people have other ideas to do with lapis, I prefer this way. This way, people can also tell what they would like to use lapis for, instead of drifting off the subject, and can choose whatever suggestion they want in the game, without seeing the common 'support or no support'
And while I do not condone Wishlists, I will contribute to this discussion!
My idea: Lapis Relics
Only found in the ancient temples of Minecraft, these relics have unique and haunting properties... Some potion you, while some make you a better farmer. Anyhow, these relics are dangerous and unstable... Use the with care.
Lapis Relics are similar to heads except they are only rotatable 90 degrees and have special properties when worn.
Dragon Helmet:
A helmet that allows you to mine smelted goods.
150 uses.
Soul Sandals:
Summons zombies and skeletons with Fire Resistance who try nd kill you.
Deonyi, maybe you could put your idea in more detail, but it surely sounds interesting! By the way, I have changed a tiny bit of it, so please say if it's good.
Also, wishlist are in fact allowed as long they are related to each other. Since the subject is 'Lapis Lazuli Utility', it is related.
I was thinking maybe Lapis Could become a "specialty item" when trading came out.
You could sell jewelry to villagers.
I also thought of rings that you could put small enchantments on.
Hey Deon, the relics already use lapis to run, their 'renovated' version is a sort-of charged version. Added the lightning and crops relic to the list. About the nether warts, I'm not sure how that will be possible to code.
@Unilegger, the point is, a ring cannot be worn in minecraft as there is no arm/hand slot. And using as an item will result in no use at all, since we use tools already.
By the way, all suggestions will be collected as a list now, to put in a big suggestion afterwards. Just collect ideas for now, and then offer it (with the respective credits to the concept creator)

If enough input comes from other people then you should start calling it a group/community suggestion.
ANYWAY: Jewellery would be pretty useless, but then again so is lapis in general.
No support from me anyway, a lot of the things here aren't even exclusively for lapis.
