I've had this idea in my head for a few days, and eventually I got sick of it just hangin' there without anyone knowing about it. So, here's my idea. TORNADOES!
Yep.
Tornadoes are extremely dangerous in survival. They rarely come out of thunderstorms, or you can do ./tornado. How the storm works. The thunder gets more rapid, the wind starts to whistle. An alarm sounds if you craft one. You can craft an alarm like this:
It can be heard up to 500 blocks.
A funnel cloud can be seen dangling from the sky. It grows, getting closer and closer to the ground. There is a new block called wind blocks, that are sort of like the charged creeper effect but color varies where the tornado is. This wind block can't be obtained with creative inventory.
Here's the chart for the tornado color in specific biomes:
Desert - Brown, brown particle effect
Plains - Grey
Jungle - Grey
Forest - Grey
Swampland - Dark Grey
Mooshroom Island: Pink
River or Ocean: Light Blue, blue particle effect
Anyway, one the tornado touches ground, the ground starts to tremble a little and an enormous mass of particles from all directions come rushing to the tornado. The tornado rips across ground, and can destroy these blocks in an instant once in range:
Leaves
Grass
Fern
Cactus
Dead Brush
Grass blocks made into dirt
Other things.
Being safe from a tornado.
Houses cannot be ripped apart. But that doesn't mean they're dangerous. They can suck players in and down to the bottom, killing them and saying: "<player> was sucked into a vortex" Want to be safe from that? Just dig out a hole underground and put in a trap door. Done. You're safe.
Eventually the tornado wears out and dissapears. The thunderstorm may continue.
Well, whadda think? This idea could add some AWESOME thrill to a map! Remember you can spawn them by ./tornado if commands are allowed.
Any thread with some sort of natural disaster suggestion gets shunned about 90% of the time. Please don't use the "you have the option to turn it off" card, because that's usually another way of saying "Well, there's a very good chance my suggestion won't get liked, but I'll make it an optional thing to evade that!" Options are left to larger, more important things: difficulty, structures, cheats and the bonus chest (which I find a useless addition). If your suggestion is good and balanced enough, then there's no need for it to be optional.
I'm sure a majority of the playerbase would leave these tornadoes off anyway, because they won't want an extra method of having their houses torn apart and it doesn't add anything fun. Creepers already do a good job of this.

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.
Thank you so much supporters! I really appreciate it!
And de supporters. I pretty much knew that was coming. I understand though.
Zippy. Just thrill. Maybe it should have NO block destruction, just grass, stuff like that. I just thought minecraft needs a little excitement boost, the only excitement so far is probably in the end dimensin, OH WAIT A MINUTE! Maybe tornadoes could take place in different dimensions.
Otherwise no tornadoes.

Perhaps it'd be best if they never occured at all.
