Hello, and I just thought of an idea... that's been suggested many times. But don't worry, I'll try to keep it unique.
First of all, the Wooden Bow (normal, current bow) needs nerfed. As of now, it does 5 full hearts of damage at full charge. Sticks and string aren't rare, and neither are arrows. This is stronger than a Diamond Sword, with it's main disadvantages being it doesn't work well when your enemy is close and has low durability... which isn't even that low, lasting longer than most Iron tools. So instead, our Wooden Bow needs a change, and also needs some stronger version.
Wooden Bow
The Wooden Bow, as I've said, is being nerfed. Here's it's current stats:
Deals 1 heart of damage at small charge
Deals 3 hearts of damage at medium charge
Deals 4 & 1/2 hearts of damage or 5 at full charge
This should be changed to:
Half a heart at small charge
2 hearts at medium charge
3 & 1/2 hearts at full charge
And it's durability would be changed to that of a Wooden Tool's: 60 uses
Also, this is the Wooden Bow section, but I think I'll explain how the damage is changed: when using the bow, the arrow being fired detects what type of bow is firing it and how much charge there is. After this, they use they use up an arrow and spawn the arrow entity. The entity has an ID (or all arrows are separate entities that appear the same?), allowing it to do it's damage. All bows shoot the same distance, with the damage and durability being what changes. Anyway, onto the next bow:
Iron Bow
The Iron bow is the second bow, obviously. Iron is a sturdy metal that can hold a bow together much better than Wood could. I think I'll jump into the stats, then the detail.
1 heart at small charge
2 & a half at medium charge
4 at full charge
However, while it DOES do more damage, it charges the teensiest bit slower, taking .4 more seconds to charge than a normal bow. Yeah, .4 isn't much of a difference. But it can still be the difference between life and death. The Iron Bow has 251 uses, just like any other Iron Tool. It's crafted like a Bow, just replace the Sticks with Iron Ingots. Also, a normal bow can be upgraded into an Iron Bow by placing an Iron Ingot next to a Wooden Bow (this is a shapeless recipe). Anyway, onto the next bow.
Gold Bow
Gold, of course, is a soft metal. While this may not make sense, a Gold Bow takes 1.3 seconds shorter to charge than a Wood Bow. It also has a durability of 33. It's crafted like a bow, with Gold instead of Wood. However, no bows can be upgraded into this, since it's kind of like a downgrade, since it just fires the fastest.
Now, let's go onto the final 'bow'.
Crossbow
Wow, if you didn't expect this, you must be blind... a Crossbow is the best bow, and is crafted like this:
This is if a Bow is an Iron Bow. I'll probably make that look nicer in the near future, assuming this isn't locked for redundancy, since as I've said, bow tiers have been suggested before. Anyway, it's stats:
1 & 1 half hearts at small charge
3 hearts at medium charge
5 hearts at full charge
This is basically the current bow's stats, except it's a bit more... expensive. This 'bow' charges .5 seconds faster than a wooden bow. Also, this 'bow' doesn't use arrows, and instead uses Crossbow Bolts, which are crafted like this:
Nothing too complex. Just the old arrow crafting recipe. Of course, Skeletons wouldn't be nerfed. They're easy enough as it is. Anyway, if you support this (or hate it), feel free to say so in the comments. Don't be surprised if this is locked. I just wanted to post my take on Bows here. Thanks for reading
This has been suggested many times before. The crossbow is probably one of the most oversuggested things I've ever seen on these forums. Bows can already be upgraded via enchantments, and these new bows would be overpowered if those had enchantments as well.

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.

I know this has been suggested many times before (especially the crossbow), but the purpose is much more to nerf the current bow. Plus, the Crossbow is only as strong as our current bow. Oh, and I forgot to mention the Crossbow's durability.
I doubt I need to mention this, but I'm not saying your suggestion is bad. It's just that threads like this have a chance to get locked despite the effort that was put into them. With the proper balance, bow tiers would probably work out just fine.

Both gold AND iron bows would realistically be either impossible to shoot (who has that kind of strength?) or take tremendous amounts of strength. Crossbows also take longer than a normal bow to shoot.
While Minecraft isn't very realistic, I still don't support this. I'd rather see rare trees that only spawn occasionally on the surface that are used to make good bows. They need to be cut down with certain axes.
-Ordinary bows made from oak/spruce/birch are Tier 1.
-Jungle wood bows are Tier 2. Jungle wood needs a wood axe to be harvested.
-Ash (or alternative) trees spawn uncommonly in every biome that can contain trees and is Tier 3. It requires an iron axe to be cut.
-Yew trees spawn very rarely in every biome that can contain trees and is Tier 4. It requires a diamond axe to be cut.
-Crossbows are a side-tier from Tier 3 and are similar to how everyone suggests them; they take ages to load, but once you load them you can shoot them instantly even if you switch away from the crossbow. They can be made from iron or possibly gold.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?

And once again, Khold is better than me! But I like how you did yours. A lot better.
Also, of course, in real life you most likely couldn't bend Iron or Gold to shoot the bow. But yeah, you've just made me hate my suggestion! +1 to you.
my bow isnt working niether is my homing bow (elemental arrows mod ) i dunno why im right clicking to load it and it only loads in creative mode NEVER in survival mode . can someone help me out.

We don't know how to mods, only suggest things.
May want to ask on the Elemental Arrows thread. Sorry.

tl;dr: bows need nerfed, add more bows
That'd be about 423.
