Introduction
The zip-line is a tool that have been used since ancient times for transportation. It is a simple tool used to connect two sides without the use of bridges. And in modern time to an extreme, it is used for warfare. It is an easy tool that has been useful to mankind for many generations, and I believe that it should be added to minecraft.
So Why Zip-lines? A Zip-line not only adds amusement rides for Minecraft, but it also adds different aspects to it to make survival or PVP a lot more interesting. Its a simple transportation that uses gravity which Minecraft needs more than anything because all the other forms of transporation are either on water, or requires a lot of rare materials like iron.
Overpowered? Absolutly not. Although you will learn it is easy to create a zip-line, it still requires hight so it can travel to the destination without it stopping in the middle. And most likely, you would not be able to use any tools on the zipline because both hands are ocupyed
Craft recipe? I have thought about it for a long time and i have dicided to just have the tool that creates the zip-line to be a fishing rod. And the pulley (or wheel) would just be a stick.
Why those 2 items? A fishing rod already creates a perfect line that is visible to everyone. It curves like a real zip-line would do and it can be thrown far. Plus, it already has a hook to prevent the string from just falling off. I believe just having a stick to be the pully or wheel would be fine because all of the recipes that require a stick ends up having the stick being pretty thick. No other item i can think of could work. However, i am open for suggestions.
It's not Realistic! There are a few things wrong with that statement. First of all is the string it self. Most people would believe that an ordinary fishing string cant support a human; however, this is minecraft and people use fishing rods to launch creepers and other people into the air.
So How would you use it I believe that changing the function of the fishing rod. I would first change the fishing rods ability to hit other things to having the attack button actually launch the bobber or zip-line and retrieve it. Then change right click into place item so that once you have your zip-line ready, you would be able to place the rod down in place and use the zipline. Then you would right click the string with a wood stick and you would be zip-lining. To get off the zip-line, either switch tools or right click again with the stick. I am not sure about breaking yet though,
How would the mechanics work? A zipline already has the string, and many entities do not travel in straight lines. Top of the head to the stick will just follow the string till it stops for some reason. If the hook landed in water, then the zip-line would just let you fall straight down, it it landed on a solid block, it would let you zip-line. There is a max speed for many transportations in minecraft. But if you play with mine-carts and roller-coasters a lot, you would notice that instead of getting faster, the mine-cart would store the energy and use it later to reach higher heights or longer distances. The same would apply for zip-lines.
Thankyou for taking the time to at-least skim through if you did.
I am open to any suggestions and I will answer any other questions.
Let me elaborate my post above more constructively...
Ziplines serve the exact same purpose as rail tracks already do. Yet, ziplines can be placed above land. I don't see the use in this though, because this will outdate railtracks.

You want to be a dragon? Well, then you need to have wings, a passion to hoard, and have a deadly breath.
Oh, and did I forgot to tell you dragons are extremely territorial? ROAWR >:)
People cant argue about rail tracks because you have to build them. If you were raiding a base, you wouldnt build a minecart track into their base, it would be suicide. The zip line works.
I have two things to say about this.
1. A suggestion for the actual zipline rod thing:
2. I think that this is a great idea (truth be told it's been had before, but I do like the way you use a fishing rod as the rope placer, that's clever), but, I think to balance it out, the fishing rod needs to have a lot less health. This prevents it from entirely replacing the rail system.

Minecraft tutorials, programming, let's plays! You name it, I'll make it!
In the minewiki it says in the future versions section or somewhere that notch wanted to add ziplines. if you turned this into a petition you might have a real chance being as that it was already considered.
