I was fooling around with Photoshop because I was bored and I decided to whip something up reflecting how this would work with the new item Dinnerbone is working on, as well as how the OP wanted it. The only difference is that in the images I made you put the dye on first and then you put the gem in.
Coloring the Hilt
Adding the Gem
Thanks much for doing these! I actually had the same idea, but not the time, so much appreciation! Will add these to the OP as an idea!
well it looks like im a bit behind. i just saw this
and came to ask if this was something like you guys suggested with the sword naming system but it looks like people were here with this way way before me

Haha, yeah, most people in the Minecraft world pick up on stuff pretty quick.
So now that you're done updating More Swords Mod:
Can any work be started on this one? And another question, if a mod is made, does that decrease the possibility that it'll be added to vanilla?
Not typically. There are some things (Such as Villages and Pistons) That were in some mod or another way before being added to Vanilla. I'd say that all ideas have a very low chance of being added, but ones that are made into mods have a much better chance of being noticed by developers.

It would be awesome to have a random naming system similar to that in the Diablo franchise and the Fate/Torchlight franchise.I love this idea. While we're at it, why not have the gems and stuff give minor bonus enchants?

Thanks for support! I do like the idea of the random naming system, but seeing as the anvil already has the "Repair and Name" aspect, it is almost pointless. Also, you're the second person to suggest the idea of small changes to the swords properties based on the inset gems. I had a chart up there on buffs/debuffs but I took it off because it seemed a bit complex at the moment. I suppose I will add a poll on this and see what others have to say!
Thanks for the input!

Personally, I think the idea of buffs on the sword due to inset isn't a good idea- you've already dyed it, named it, enchanted it... you've forged a perfect sword, should you really be able to go further?
Actually, it really depends on the buffs. If it were, say, bone gives 1/2 a heart more damage to the undead, I suppose it could work,
Like it very much, I mean, you want your sword to be very special. it is Your sword. and this gives a not overly OP way to make swords individual and special at the same time. just finished the Inheritance quadrilogy, so I'm really for this,
(but as a bonus, you should be able to dye the metal. maybe not realistic, but hey... what is)
I love this idea. I have an idea for a sword:
The Zephyr, it's hilt would would blue while the rest would be white, with the exception of the pommel, which would have a diamond embedded in it. It would have knockback 4, but nothing else.

Be caring, please help my dragon hatch by giving him a little click.
I think it is good idea since you can add your own personality to the sword like if you wanted a black hilt and a white gem in it
Also i like the Legendary Sword idea since you would have a sence on achieving something and once you collect them all you would be Indestructible........wouldn't that be epic
I Support

Hey guys I have just changed my name from AidanNC to BlueProto
Just doing this so you know who it is

Thank you very much for support. And, right on! This was inspired by Inheritance. As for dying metal.. that is how this idea began, but many many others did not like the idea. With the new Anvil, being able to customize the hilt seems reasonable.

Great! For Zephyr, are you thinking that the blade is white? As posted above, only the hilt is customized. Not sure where you're going with this, but take a look at some of the sword suggestions as well as the pictures.

Thanks! Yeah, all the legendary swords would be nearly impossible. Think of all the dungeons, and then think about how often records appear in them. And then take probably 1/2 or 1/3 out of that.. that's the chance of finding a Legendary Sword. Would be great for a video series.
Maybe you should make this idea with bows too, add a whole customized feature to them as well
Thanks for support! The idea of advanced bows has also crossed my mind, but what would you suggest to customize? There don't seem to be many features that stand out, other than to color a bow and give it a hand gaurd. Ideas?
