I want this now!! do u think u can make it into a plugin for bukkit as well??
I wish. I don't think something like this can be made into a plugin. It deals with the client, not the server. As far as I know, server plugins are more the mechanics of Minecraft, like the chat, or teleportation, or adding features to already programmed blocks that exist in the game.
However, the mod version shown in my signature can be used on a server! Everyone playing must have Forge and BladeCraft installed first though.

Hmm, this is heading the right direction, but for some reason, people seem to make a connection between Lapis and water since they are both blue, and I don't think this is the way to go. Thanks for the suggestion, I think we need to refine it more first though. : P
I'm sorry, but I definitely do NOT support the forging weapons to add colors to their names. The reason why is because even though we can rename items in anvils, we can't add color/formatting, so lot's of plugins depend on this, for example:
You have a plugin that adds spell books. One is called Fireball. A player could just rename their book in an anvil to Fireball, and then they would have cheated in the super awesome spell book that they were supposed to get from a dungeon. So then the developer realizes that by changing the Fireball name to Fireball, now a player can't rename their book and get the spell anymore.
I know quite a few plugins that use mechanics similar to this, so my vote would have to be a no.

So you don't support awesome suggestions simply because they MIGHT hinder already-present plugins?
Every update breaks most plugins. Just saying.

You really seem to have a strong habit of spitting on posts that don't share the same opinion as you. You know, if you took a step back and emcompassed a little more into your view, you might find that the negative posts may actually have some reason in them.

There are quite a few things wrong with your post here. First, I don't think you should be comparing my suggestion to other "plugins" and saying it will make them stop working. Additions to the game are more important than plugins for servers anyways.
Secondly, for some reason, you did not understand this post at all. Please read all the way through before posting. You said:
"I definitely do NOT support the forging weapons to add colors to their names."
Where in this post did I say anything about changing the color of the name the sword has? All we're doing here is customizing the texture of the sword to add gems and a different hilt color, as well as some smaller additions to go with it.
Lastly (this has nothing to do with my suggestion by the way, I am just trying to make a point here), you said that if there is plugin on a server that allows for spell books such as one named "Fireball," the player can simply name an enchanted book by this name, and it will all of a sudden become some marvelous spell book. This is not the case, because Minecraft doesn't work that way. The book would not automatically fill with text, simply because there is a naturally spawning book out there named "Fireball" that has text in it. Now I don't know how this plugin works.. But once again, it does not matter, as it has nothing to do with my suggestion.
I like the idea on being able to name your sword, but not to dye.
It would not make sense to 'dye' metal.
If they did add dying to a diamond sword, You can dye it brown to make it look like wood
Then Trick players into a unfair 1v1 Who want to use a wood sword, etc
But your using a hidden diamond sword.
yeah, i dont think you shouold be able to dye the blade, but you should be able to dye the...i forgot the word. the thing you hold
This is a great idea....
well, who wouldn't want their own unique sword?
dying the blades could only tint it.
so a diamond sword will still look like a diamond sword, but be a little reddish
(if red was the stuff you were using.)

A tint in combination with the color sword blades are already wouldn't look all that great.. Think about what you said there, Diamond Sword (Cyan) with a red tint, would give you some dark purplish color.

But, they sort of need to have something unique to catch my eye.
THIS SURE DID.
