As i was thinking about lightning and then it struck me!!
How about we add Zombie pigmen 'groups/tribes' to have attitudes!
LET ME EXPLAIN:
First off you tend to see zombie pigmen in a group/tribe.
But the only way to make them attack you, is by hitting them, so their so threat in the nether.
So, The only thing you need to worry about is ghasts, BECAUSE....
Magma Cubes: They are NO Threat, You don't tend to find them because they jump in a strait line.... Right into the bottom of lava pools. If you do see one, you can run 10x faster than them. No threat.
Blazes: No problem, they have a easy doge fire shot. And only can use 2 while in the air before touching the ground and re-setting it to 2 shots. And they are really easy to kill, 2-3 hits with a diamonds sword and they are done.
Ghasts: The only problem i see in the nether. Flying, shooting exploding fireballs of death, and hard to kill.
Zombie pigmen: Don't hit them, and they don't hurt you. Easy gold farm, And flesh farm.
So i thought a harder zombie pigman,
Attitudes for them.
Now, As of this moment, if you walk up to a zombie pigman, he just looks at you. Nothing else until you hit him.
My idea: Zombie pigmen will have different attitudes then another 'tribe'
Friendly: Will not attack you on sight, hit them and they wont attack, kill one of them and they start attacking.
Neutral: Typical zombie pigmen today, wont attack you on sight, hit them and they attack.
Aggressive:They will attack on sight, even if you don't do anything, if you come within the area of the attack zone, they will go all rampage on you.

Now, there will be NO WAY for you to see if they and Friendly Neutral or Aggressive, until you test it out.
I think this would add some challenge to zombie pigmen rather then just running past them.
Note: Tribes of zombie pigmen can mix, but they will not attack each other, if they are a different attitude to them. This will prevent a giant war, that will cause more lag in the nether.

I don't like the idea of pigzombies that just lay down and take a beating until one of them die, nor do I like the idea of pigzombies that attack on sight. These guys can overwhelm you within a few seconds. They can almost sprint, have swords, and have armor points equivalent to a gold helmet + any other armor they may have spawned with.
Though I'm not bashing your idea in any way, I personally would rather keep the Zombie Pigmen the way they are now. I find them nearly 100% balanced with their current behavior. The two major issues I see with the suggestion is as follows:
Not being able to tell how each "tribe" acts will most likely end up being a tedious and unfun thing some players need to keep track of. Having them in tribes would not only be something not really worth programming, but two different-disposition Pigmen tribes might walk near each other and confuse the players even more. Know what I mean? It's just easier to have them all neutral, knowing that if you try to grind their items, they won't make it easier for you.
The aggressive tribes could be a huge problem. You might find yourself with low armor, health and hunger, only to get unlucky and run into an aggressive tribe. Hitting one Z. Pigmen could be a problem already, because you could find yourself fighting more and more of these Pigmen because you keep trying to defend yourself in different areas, thus forcing even more Pigmen to attack you because you're radius of Pigmen-angering keeps altering and growing.
