Okay, so do you know what a tracer bullet is? It's a bullet that leaves behind a glowing
chemical trail that allows you to see the trajectory it takes and where it hits. So then I
thought, how about tracer arrows in Minecraft? You would craft a tracer arrow with
an arrow, 1 redstone ans 1 dye. The dye determines the color of the trail. When you fire
a colroed tracer arrow, it leaves a particle trail of correspondingly-colored particles behind.
These particles last 5 seconds then slowly begin fading away. They also produce a colored
spark where they hit. They have no special hit effects, and act just like normal arrows that
leave a redston trail. You could also put them in despensers for some sweet light shows.
Maybe it would be a good plugin or a mod, but I feel like it's to technologically advanced for normal Minecraft. Also, besides the light shows, what other uses would it have? I guess you could use it for arrow shooting contests or target practice. Is there a way you could make it, but without the technology aspect? Like maybe an enchantment? I think it is a pretty good idea.
I just thought of the coolest way to make this useful. It does everything that you said (and provides light) but whenever you hit a mob with it that mob will shine in that color and emit particles and light so that you can keep track of mobs! Also, instead of your recipe it should be 1 torch, 1 glowstone dust, 1 dye, 1 redstone dust and 1 feather.
The point is it's jsut so you can see where your arrows go and adjust your aim accordingly.
If I added another effect, people would jsut say "BLAH IS OVERPOW-HURRRRRED". I don't
know, maybe it could distract certain mobs.

With the recipe I provided, I would say it is rather UNDERPOW-HURRRRED.
