Awesome idea! I was wondering if you could come up with a mix breed for husky/greyhounds and husky/rottweiler? It will just be cool to be able to mix any two breed together without worrying about limitations.
I also like the idea in the above posts about having a softball or a tennis ball. Just preferably my choice of toy for my dogs since they actually hate frisbees lol.

I'll try to make some deeper hybrid breeds, thanks for the support
I don't think softballs or tennis balls would fit into minecraft, as they are balls and balls are spheres, sorry.
On the contrary to your dog, my German Shepherd inhales his Frisbees XP
Eh suprised you didn't notice it yourself, you mention both dogs and wolves, minecraft hasn't got dogs they are wolves so having breeds of dogs means adding a new entity.
does it really matter? I do think I could improve this idea a little but still... really
This is MY version of this suggestion (I was gonna suggest this) :
Ok, well, we all know dogs and cats can't do much, right? Well, I personally think they are under-updated. What I think there should be:
More wild breeds
I put that
Names
I put that too
Toys (like the ones on nintendogs but realistic or the usual cat toys like a ball of wool or a teaser)
I put some sensible toys with uses, but I don't want mc freaking rotating around dogs.
An openable GUI to check on them (with the option to let them go anywhere within a certain radius or make them teleport to a certain spot, maybe untame them or let them go anywhere until you teleport them or even on multiplayer, let a friend temporarily care for them or have them)
I'm going to update the whistle for that, not sure of a massive gui for them.
About dog bowls, I don't think they are needed, what I mean is, to craft the full bowl you should just use a normal bowl, no need for a new item! I know it might seem weird to drink soup from the bowl your dog just ate from, but you cooked your beef in a furnace where you just smelted iron so who cares!
Hey I'll add a post, but first, thanks for the support!
I like the idea of different breeds, but dog toys seem a bit... Excessive, considering that no other animal in minecraft has so much stuff attributed to it.
no support, i would rather mojang stopped working on silly things like horses or dogs, they should be working on great things like cubic chunks or modular boats.
im not totally sure about some parts, but i like the different types of dogs idea. they do need to be able to teleport to you more easily in oceans. because they dont teleport and get unloaded whenever i go home with a dog from a while away.
Dog whistle seems okay...
Frisbee has no use, really. we dont really need dog toys. something with no use (aesthetics for a type of block, counting as a use) like the frisbee belongs in a mod, not an update. and dogs dont need a whole training thing to make them stronger, etc.
And thank god you didnt suggest having them do tricks. That may give some incentive for the little girls to tame some wolves, but for most of us, its just a big waste of time and effort coding.
If its useless, then why spend more than a few hours to implement it? Java is very hard to use. And every new addition takes hours, if not days. even the simple things take a long time to code, design, etc.
At the end. half support. i agree we need more dog types, but having toys for them is a bad idea.
And the dog bowl, it just seems like outright feeding them with some meat is good enough,
And you have to remember, this isnt modern, its medieval. dogs were used for hunting back then, if used at all. we didnt have frisbees, dog bowls, etc back then.
It would make a great mod, im sure. but not that good an addition.
Whatever you do. Dont. Mess. With. The. Dragon. EVER. It feeds on skydoesminecraft fans. Well, only the ones that act like they have been taking drugs.

I dont thank thats historically accurate since dogs have been used as hunters at the time of the Cavemen, and it isn't hard to believe that people may have but bowls and what not under the food to keep it clean (the Egyptians used bowls to feed their cats)
good, but i have a tweek
wolves are specific to tundra and taiga, there are more breeds but all are in tundra, drak wolves, light grey wolves, white wolves...
taming them doesn't change their breed, just makes their eyes peaceful and cute and adds a collar to them

My thoughts, but I just gave them distinguishable names. Plus the cross breeds shall have different skins.
Perhaps instead of a GUI, we could send commands through the dog whistle/flute by alternatively clicking the left and right mouse buttons (each producing a different tone)? In this way you would have to discover the right combinations, which IMO fits well with the whole approach of Minecraft.
I like some parts but not others. I like the 4 different wolves in different areas but I dont think they should magically change into domestic dogs like cats (which bothers me). Also they should breed the same way cats do. And dogs toys are useless.
I DO support the dog whistle however. I have wanted something along the lines of this for the longest time. Here I even made a recipe for the dog whistle, hope you like it
Partial support.
