While drafting a multiplayer build in singleplayer creative, I was having great difficulty getting some log blocks to rotate how I wanted them to, even while flying. I had to get to the weirdest angles to get my logs sideways. Just flying around, it was difficult to place the logs properly. I realized that it'd be incredibly difficult to build like this without flying, in a more practical multiplayer environment, where flying isn't allowed. If I wanted to get the logs to be sideways without flying enabled, I'd have to set up a bunch of scaffolds or dirt blocks, extending building times by quite a lot.
I also noticed that it didn't depend on what face of the block the player's crosshairs were pointing at, but actually the angle at which the player was looking - for example, if the player was looking at an angle with about 30 degrees or less from where he was standing to where he was looking, the block would be placed vertically, but any greater would result in a horizontal block. That means to place vertical logs, I'd have to be looking almost straight down or up, right next to whatever object I was building. Otherwise, I might be trying to build a vertical log, but some blocks would be placed sideways because the angle I was looking at wasn't right.
I propose that the 'script' or whatever for block placement with logs be changed. I don't know what it should be changed to, but I'd like something more practical and easier to use without being able to fly. I was thinking that if the log was placed on the side of the block, it'd be sideways, and if placed on the bottom or top of a block, it'd be vertical. I don't know if this would make building easier or harder, but I think it would create more linear results for log placement.
I apologize if there's any gaps in my reasoning, I just woke up when I wrote this.
And for two and a half thousand years, the ring passed out of all knowledge... Rumor turned into myth... myth turned into legend, and legend gave rumor and myth amiss, and went straight into autumn. ...Wait, what?
