The Wither Battleaxe is a tool crafted using a Nether Star, Obsidian and Wither Skeleton Heads. It functions both as an axe and a sword and it also has two special effects. Any mob hit by a Wither Battleaxe will be withered for 3 seconds. The Wither and Wither Skeletons are immune to this. It also has an area of effect (AoE) attack that's used by drawing your axe, like a bow, and left-clicking a mob or the ground.
Durability: 1728 uses. Uses per hit/block: 1 use when used on blocks an axe can cut or hitting mobs. 3 uses when using the AoE attack or breaking something that isn't wooden. Speed: Iron tool speed.
Damage: Deals 3 hearts of damage + 5 seconds of Wither. When used on Wither-immune mobs, it deals 6 damage. AoE attack deals 1 hearts of damage to all mobs within range and gives them 3 seconds of Wither.
AoE: 3x3x3 blocks from the entity hit or block clicked. Yes, the attack CAN go through walls. In between each use, you can't use the attack for 8 seconds. WARNING: The user of the AoE attack will get withered if they're in the range. Use with caution.

Seems balanced, considering how the Wither is probably harder to fight than the enderdragon, and the cost of obsidian and Wither Skeleton heads.

Good idea, perhaps the durability should be a bit more, It's pretty expensive.

I like the idea, don't get me wrong, its expensive and a pain to get and while powerful it doesn't help you get more of them. However I'd find it very unlikely that it would ever exist in game. It's oddly specific pseudo-magical item. Minecraft has a tendency to deal with generic items and applying upgrades to said items, what you suggested is by and large unheard of in terms of style.
It doesn't have to follow the style, does it? Also, this isn't pseudo-magical. The Nether Star is what allows the AoE attack (Magic). I'd have made a warhammer if I wanted the attack to make sense. There isn't really any other magic component in the recipe.

A bit more? This is.. close to diamond durability, gotta make it exactly that when I post this.
But yeah, isn't it enough that such a powerful tool has DIAMOND durability?
Speaking of power, I need to list damage! D:

I suppose it doesn't have to follow the style however I posit that it would help the both the creators of the game and you if a consensus style was followed. Its easier to adopt an idea that works in concert with what's established.
By pseudo magical I meant that is has an effect that can only be explained by magic, I didn't mean an enchantment. I'm quite certain that you intended the nether star to have that effect in the item. Additionally or what you suggested a war-hammer DOES make more sense.
Actually, said style is only followed by the main tools of the game. There are other tools, too, that don't follow the style. Shears? Flint and Steel? Buckets? Yeah. Speaking of which, Flint and Steel and Lava Buckets are good tools that can be used in combat. The main purpose of this tool was for "ranged melee" combat along with another reward to beating the Wither.
Oh. Well, the Nether Star is pretty much magic, as you said. A warhammer does make more sense, but that's not the point.

Interesting. I like it; it's pretty well-balanced. I like the fact that, upon beating the Wither, you have a choice of either crafting the Wither Battleaxe or the beacon block. One question: Would the Wither effect work on the Ender Dragon?
And personally I'd prefer this use of Nether Stars over the beacon blocks. Actually getting that damn pyramid is so crazy without trading alot and/or a zombie pigman gold nugget farm. Even then it takes a while.
Plus the beacon doesn't really help that much. But this new weapon would be a really exciting addition to Minecraft.

Why do people have youtube Minecraft videos that claim to be current version but were uploaded months ago?

Since potions don't affect the Ender Dragon, this probably shouldn't.
And it won't.
Thanks for all the feedback, people!

It's been so long since I posted this. It does seem extremely OP, so I've nerfed it.
3 uses when using the AoE attack or breaking something that isn't wooden. (2 > 3)
AoE attack deals two hearts of damage to all in range and gives 3 seconds of Wither. (6 hearts > 2 hearts. 20 seconds > 3 seconds.)

Hmmm...
Maybe have a wooden handle and the heads as part of the head part of the axe?
I'll support, although I'd like disadvantages besides cost, otherwise everyone will gun for it.
(Also, it's made of obsidian, which is blastproof and immovable. Wouldn't a warhammer be more appropriate?)
I like the idea, especially since there's the 1.9 snapshots with the powerful (but slow) axes. it would be cool to see a mod add this in... but this isn't a mod suggestion thread. I give 75% supportonly because the item should do 11+ damage (to make it better then a diamond axe) and have a cool down rate of 0.1 (because obsidian is heavy plus balance...)
(Not the best sprite)

Last bump for today, I swear.
I dont really know the new crafting items so i cant say if the crafting makes it op or not.
But for now it looks good.
Ill be back to make sure you dont bump till 12:00 AM the next day, lol good topic though.
