Well. As you may know, there are many mods that make torches to be a light source when you're holding them.
I just came with a not too original idea, but I'd love this to be added to minecraft. Or at least to a mod.
My idea is that, using the crafting recipe I'll show you on the image below, you can craft a Lantern. It would be crafter using 2 gold bars, 2 sticks and some gunpowder.
Once you have it, It's a light source when you hold it, but It can't be placed. It'll only produce light when you're holding it, but if you equip, as an example, a sword, the lantern will not produce light.
The lanter has a limited use - it doesn't break, though. The lantern has 30 uses. Holding the lantern for 10 seconds will count as one use; that means, it can produce light during 5 minutes. When you run out of gunpowder, no more light will be produced, and you have to recharge the lantern.
How? I'll explain it to you on this picture show below. You have to craft the uncharged lantern with some gunpowder to fully charge it.
What do you think about it? Thanks for your support.
Also, sorry if I don't speak english correctly. My mother languaje is Spanish, and... well, you know.
Mobile lightsources used to be an almost daily suggestion.
The one thing they all overlook, however, is that with the current lighting engine any sort of mobile light would be lagtastic and/or bugged into oblivion.
