NOTE: Can also be crafted with Jack 'o Lantern, but will not be any different
Are you tired of having mobs trample your crops? No, because this has been removed from the game. However, wouldn't you still like to keep them away from your farm, especially while you are farming? You certainly wouldn't like to have a creeper ruin your melon patch, now, would you?
Oh... sure... you can just build a fence around the area, right? Not exactly. Spiders can climb those fences, and if you are close enough, a creeper can explode them. Likewise, unless you spam torches around the area, mobs could actually SPAWN IN YOUR FARM!
So... How can I protect my precious crops from the big bad monsters of the night?
With a scare crow!
That's right, a scare crow! Not only will this wonderous object deter monsters from your farm, but it will also keep them from spawning inside, even if there are no torches nearby!
So, this thing's got to be over powered, huh? NO... There are limitations to its abilities.
1. This object can only be placed on farm land. That's right, farm land! Why? so people won't spam them everywhere to make things too easy. Note, however, that farmland with a scarecrow on it will not revert to dirt, even without a water source. This is similar to how farmland behaves with wheat planted on it.
2. The range of effect for this object is a 4 block radius, same radius as water for hydrating farmland.
3. Only works in areas that are exposed to direct sunlight (or moonlight) and not covered by a solid block above. Exemptions are glass, leaves, and other such transparent blocks (blocks that don't block plant growth). This means no underground farms if you want a scare crow. Likewise, it will only stop monsters from spawning on farmland, dirt, grass, and other farm like materials. That way, you can't just place a block of dirt in the desert and slap a scare crow on it to make a cheap force field.
4. As the crafting recipe suggests, you're gonna need 15 pieces of leather (probably not THAT difficult to get), 2 sticks, and a pumpkin (or Jack 'o Lantern). This would definitely be considered harder to get than a stick and coal (which makes torches).
Also note that, unless decided otherwise, dyed clothing used to craft will not customize the look of the scare crow.

Read 3.
If a monster were to spawn away from a scarecrow "force field", but then go into this field, will they automagically go back out?
Or does it just stop monsters from spawning in the force field, because all you need is torches.
That's pretty illogical
