Is it okay if I introduce another dual wield suggestion? Basically I'd like to add three items. A shield, a sword and shield, and a katar.
First off, the shield is made using tool/weapon materials like diamond, iron, etc. The material only affects the durability of the item and not the amount of damage blocked. Damage blocked is the same as when right clicking an equipped sword. Left-clicking lets you hit with the shield for always 1 heart damage whatever material. Right-clicking lets you block like a regular sword but the player retains the ability to walk at normal speed and even run. Running toward a mob while holding right-click will knockback the mob at no damage on collision. On impact the player stops running but can run again by immediately pressing forward twice. To craft the shield the main material (e.g. Diamond) must form an upside down shape of the letter L and a stick in the middle of the crafting inventory. Running left-click still provides normal knockback and falling left-click still does a normal critical.
Sword and shield is made by putting a sword and a shield of the same main materials and one block of the main material under the sword in a crafting table. The middle column of the crafting inventory should be empty. The sword and shield occupies one item slot and it is considered a single item. However, when selected, the player appears to be holding a sword on the main-hand and a shield on the off-hand. The sword and shield item functions like a normal sword when left-clicking and right-clicking provides the same advantages as the shield: unimpaired walk/run speed while blocking and knockback when running + hold right-click. Running left-click still provides normal knockback and falling left-click still does a normal critical.
Katar is a dual-wield weapon as well made by placing two swords of the same material on a crafting table with a block of the same main material under each sword. The middle column of the crafting inventory should be empty as well. The katar occupies on item slot and it is considered a single item. However, when selected, the player has both arms raised with a blade projecting from both hands/fists. When left-clicking the katar does 1-2 heart more damage than a sword of the same material. When right-clicking it allows the player to instantly run towards a mob the cursor is currently pointed at. This instant run is only limited to 5 blocks and if the targeted mob is more than 7 blocks away right-clicking will do nothing. This right-click instant run mechanic allows the player to knockback mobs even if initiated at a melee distance. No need to back up and run again to use knockback. Also, even if the player is hindered and can't run normally (hungry, in water, soul sand) the player is "forced to run" upon right-click provided there is a targeted mob and it is within 7 blocks. Critical knockbacks is achievable if the player right-clicks while in sneak mode (hold shift) or if the player is already running upon right-clicking. This results into a critical and knockback in one attack. Falling right-click just results in a normal critical with no knockback as the player can't run in midair. Running left-click still provides normal knockback and falling left-click still does a normal critical.
A problem I see with this is that it would be difficult to keep track of durability and enchantments when two items are smushed together into one. The control mechanic for the sword and shield seems good, though.
The main issue is that it's just plain overpowered. There should be some sort of reason to not the use the katara other than that it costs more to make. Iron kataras would be equivalent to diamond swords. They could use some sort of drawback. Not sure what at the moment, though,
Kataras seem like a bit of a strange choice, too. How would two swords translate to two punching daggers?

I understand what you mean. Basically I mean for both dual wield items to be expensive. Regarding the katar I guess the drawback of using it is that it is expensive and it doesn't have a block function. It's purely for offensive purposes and won't do anything to reduce damage like the sword or the shield or the sword and shield. About the durability and enchantment issues: The crafted dual wield item has a single durability meter since it is considered as one item. Basically ITISONE ITEM but it looks like it's two when used. Enchantments are lost when using enchanted items to make the new dual-wield item. And the dual-wield item can be enchanted normally like a sword.

So there aren't any shield enchantments, then?
