I don't know why this hasn't been added yet, but it would be really cool to be able to host a world and having your friend be able to join that world without going on lan.
That's physically impossible. You either need to get off your lazy butt and make a server, or Mojang will have to go out and buy a $500 server rack thing for you to host the world on.

When will Minecraft stop updating? When pigs fly over the frozen plains of hell, twice in a blue moon, while Taylor Swift sings a song called, "Maybe I'm the Problem".

I don't have the time to make a server. And mojang has the money to buy that, so that's not an excuse.

I don't think Mojang is going to bother to make one.

I hate people who complain. I hate spiders. I hate people who own an Xbox One. I hate people who like sandbox games. I hate people who like first person shooters. I hate people who like explosions. I hate people who like video games. I hate people who are hateful. I hate people that don't like spam. I hate people who like cake. I hate people who type in proper grammar and spell words properly on the internet. I hate hypocrites.

Mojang is estimated to make 14.000.000 euros this year (or just over 17.000.000 dollars) and with the rate their games are selling it looks like they are going to make it. I believe they can spare 0.00294% of their income for a way that would make it easier for people to invite (new customers) and play with their friends. If Minecraft keeps selling for 25 dollars, it will only take twenty purchases for Mojang to make the money back.
I know twenty people on the top of my head who don't have minecraft, that I am more than willing to invite if I could only host a server with them (alas my router is finicky, multiple port forward software and manual attempts later and the port is not forwarded.)
So it would be like the Xbox Edition (go to any single player world, and people can join you?), if so I support.

My router isn't really strong, and I'm afraid a server would crash it. And yes, it would be like how you can invite people over xbox live to play.

So, give 500 dollars to all 7 million people that bought the game.
500 x 7,000,000 = 3,500,000,000.
Great.
