Hello, Tom Riddle here, and I have a new idea for pigs and saddles.
Oh wait, the title was already added. But I have an idea for this. It seems a bit OP based on the speed you can get to. 5 blocks per second and free control kind of defeats the purpose of Minecarts. While they're easier, I could easily lure a pig to a pen, lock it up, and use it next time without using any redstone, iron, gold, or anything. This is a bit OP. Like, too OP.
When a pig goes in mad chase of the carrot (full speed), after about 30 seconds - 1 minute, it should get angry and buck it's rider off, run around as if it was damaged (you should know how they run in circles from hunting), then go back to normal. The saddle would stay on them, too. This could kind of defeat the purpose of Pig-Powered Travel, but it also makes it not OP. With enough luck and good timing, you could really just cancel this out by instantly getting back on.
So, if you like this idea, that's great. Thanks!
If you feel something should be changed... just post it in the comments. I'll most likely read over it unless this somehow becomes a super popular thread (which it probably won't) with a ton of comments an hour.
tl;dr: Pigs get mad and buck off their riders after time
This makes pig travel less OP, and more pointless and annoying.
While I do agree, pigs should be a less overpowered form of transport, possibly by slowing them down to much slower than the top speed of a mine cart, there is no need to make pig-travel outright useless by having it buck you off every minute or so. It then goes from being an advantage to being, simply, annoying.

I agree, it would be annoying. But, they only buck at full speed. This takes about 3 minutes.
The bucking takes about 30 - 60 seconds.
You could actually travel some good distance with this.
Although, reading this again makes me realize how much I dislike it... but I can't find any changes I'd like...
The combination seems like such an obvious feature to be implemented. All the components are already there, all you really have to do is combine them. Add that to current uselessness of saddles and this idea goes from "pretty cool" to "pretty f***ing great".
Though I don't think this combination (as you seem to agree) should be so effective that minecart travel becomes rather pointless, but I don't think causing the rider to be bucked off is the best solution.
The easiest fix I can see is simply making it slower.
Alternatively this method of travel could reduce the durabiliy of your fishing pole or starve the pig through over-exertion.
