What if there is a 72% chance to get poisoned when a zombie hits you and lose control from time to time and lose health for 3 seconds and since zombies can equip armor and weapons in 12w34a when you die from the poison your body turns into a zombie with the armor and weapon/s you had. To lower the chance of getting poisoned to 0% you have to make a potion that is made like this:
Awkward Potion + Rotten Flesh = Potion of Zombie Poison
Potion of Zombie Poison + Ghast Tear = Potion of Preventive to Zombie Poison (Anti-Zombie Vaccine)
Also, zombies can attack mobs other than villagers, and turn them into "zombie mobs" that attack players and act like normal zombies.
Getting poisoned would be incredibly annoying. There's a reason that the only mob that can currently do it is buried in mineshafts. Losing control would add injury to injury (ha ha, I butchered an expression) and be frustrating. One of the worst things that can happen to a player is losing control of his or her character.
As for mobs turning into zombies, that might work.
I have always felt like the zombies where all just your past lives or the lives of other players who died. Maybe just simplify this too death by zombie and nothing else. Besides that maybe your skin might be dynamically modded to be used by said dead zombie.
Also, if you're going to give a zombie all you items be sure to make him persistent so he doesn't despawn and rob you.
