I think that villagers should be able to build kind of like being able to sort of upgrade their buildings. They would have to get the resources first and then they could build more buildings or upgrade them. and with certain building upgrades certain things would change. such as the villagers would have a different look and they would be able to trade different items like wood cobble torches etc. please tell me what you think thanks for taking your time to read this.
Eh... It took them a long time just to give us fully functional Villagers, and it took even longer for them to implement trading. Despite what we have now, the Villagers and villages still have some pretty noticeable bugs. So the amount of programming it would take to make the cross-armed folk build accurate buildings and go out and collect resources would be phenomenal.
On another note, the player is able to take a lot of things from villages. Imagine what the player can take from them if the villagers actually went out, built new things and collected more resources.

Hey, you there. Yes, you! Are you thinking about posting a suggestion on the forums anytime soon? If so, please read this before doing so.

No thanks. As said above, you can already get tons of resources for villages. If they upgraded their houses with fancy things like, maybe even, iron blocks, it would be an insane amount of resources you can steal.
Besides, there's trading as well to get resources. We're a little too spoiled already to have villages. Those upgrades could potentially mean even more free iron. And don't you think having them build with crossed arms is a little bit hard?
No support.

I'm still using Windows 7.
I said this. Two days later, my computer's motherboard melted down and I had to get a new one with Windows 8.
I agree with the person above except that the villagers need to build farms and roads and once your liked enough by them, you can lead the village and conquer other villages. The villages would also need to eat or they would starve like the player would so that is the point of them having farms, Notch needs to make the villagers eat or they die, so you can give them food for money.

Irony in the first degree.
I suppose so.
