So, last night I had a dream. The 1.4 update had just come out and I was fighting a Wither (the new mob)
And when I killed it, instead dying like normal, it dropped an item called Wither Jar/Captured Wither.
This is my idea, and I'll explain it to you.
When you kill a Wither, it will drop the Wither Jar, an item that looks like the empty bottle you use for potions, but it will have a Wither mob inside of it. You can place it down as a decoration or just store it away in a chest.
When placed down, the Wither inside of it starts moving around like in a mob spawner, yet in a different pattern. It might visit one corner of the jar, then go to the middle, the move left an inch. Anyway, it gives off light when placed, and when broken, (Except in Hard mode) it will return the jar. If in Hard or Hardcore, it will respawn the Wither within a 35 block radius so you can re fight it.
Thank you for reading. Please tell me what you thought of my idea and give me constructive criticism.
Wait so can the Wither Jar be red and white and when you throw it it will spawn the wither to fight for you against other mobs. Also the Wither Jar can also be used to capture other mobs and also use them to fight against hostile mobs. Then you could get together with other players and pit your wither jarred mobs against each other. There could be a way to level up your mobs by training them in battle. Gotta catch'em all! :DDDD
Not a bad idea though. It gives you a nice little trophy like the egg and it'd be amusing to watch. Also like the egg you can get it back with pistons and the like. I like it.
Nice idea. I was about to actually post something like this. The difference of my idea would be that there would be jars for every mob (except Ender dragon maybe) and they would be strictly for decoration. So it could be a collectable like the discs.
Nice idea. Makes it easy get a trophy and re-fight a boss at the same time. I can see boss arenas arising if this was implemented.
It would also be nice if it dropped something like that, but also dropped another place-able item, like the dragon egg, that was only for decoration. That way, if you got killed the second time, or it de-spawned after you died fighting it, you would still have a nice trophy to keep.
The only problem I could ever see arise from this is if someone set a wither boss down and ran away, leaving a certain area to be griefed without their name splashed all over it in the server history. Unfortunately, you have stifled the only negative point I could see about this by only allowing it to re-spawn at hard difficulty. +1 for you, my ingenious fellow!
Thank you, PheonixR, for pointing that out.
My solution for this problem is that the server will create a message when someone breaks on if the server is on hard difficulty.
I know that's not the best solution. Anybody have a better one?
A wild Zombie appeared!
Go Spider!
Spider uses Bite!
Zombie died!
...
...... Hell yes.

It would be cool to have some kind of a trophy of it, like the dragon egg from the ender dragon. It depends alot on how the wither is implemented into the game.

Zaket, I didn't think of that, great idea!
Maybe, the re-spawned Wither shouldn't be able to "eat" blocks, and have slightly less health than the first one?
