Maybe plates could be made out of wood, possibly iron, and I do not recommend brick. Who has plates made out of bricks? That's an awkward thought. That's the problem, though, it's about half and half of who wants what. Clay or iron or wood? Maybe we could support them all.

I haven't been able to get this thread in sight of the minecraft developers, but I haven't given up! I REALLY want/need plates in minecraft, and so do many other people.
The crafting recipes got broke, so I had to create new images, that's why I re-wrote the main post.

This is an excellent idea. It has a lot of potential to be used on redstone mechanisms now that consumable food on plates can be treated as blocks rather than entities.

Right-click on the frame o get your item back, then eat it as usual.
You know, that was basically a completely different idea. How in the world did you turn this idea into that one? This one is where there is a block of food on a dinner plate which you can right click to eat, yours is about food on a picture frame.
In my opinion, this has very limited uses. No servers I have ever played on have had these 'diners' you speak of.
I can not really be convinced that eating food off a plate is any more efficient than having food in the hotbar or in a chest.
As for looks, there are already pressure plates and item frames. No support.
