Oceans need to be big. REALLY big. So big, you can't swim across them for fear of shark attacks big. To get across oceans, you're going to need to build a boat.
Also in oceans, there should be islands. I see four types of islands: Archipelagos, Desert Island, Mountainous Island, and rocky outcrop. Archipelagos would be a collection of 3 -5 small islands with grass and a few trees. Desert islands would be all sand. Not much of anything. Mountainous islands would be the big ones. They would essentially be a mountain surrounded by either small forests or small grasslands. An alternate variety would be volcanic. Rocky outcrop seems self-explanatory. They could possibly occur around Mountainous islands and damage ships.
Oceans would be home to a few mobs: Small Fish, Big Fish, Sharks, Stingrays, Whales, and the very rare Kraken. These would be combat able with a harpoon gun. Sharks and Kraken would be aggressive. Stingrays would be semi-aggressive. The rest would be peaceful.
So, to sum up, oceans:
-Huge, enough to merit the building of ships.
-Interspersed with four types of islands.
-Five types of mobs.

This may be a fad, but I love dragons, so why the heck not?
I think this might already be added to Infdev. I mean, I've seen big bodies of water, but they don't have any sand around them. And then there's the REALLY REALLY HUGE ONES that have sand borders. I don't know, man.
now all it needs is Squids. <_< FOR NO REASON OF COURSE.
Though seriously, didn't think of the ocean when it came to boats but now I see how vital it is that the ocean resembles and feels like an ocean.
I also love the choices of islands, as they would make good places to repair your ships or a crews health if needed.
Also volcanoes are a major big yes in my book.

<- This is clickable by the way.... CLICK IT. SQUIDS DEMAND YOU DO SO.

Irony. Stingrays are actually very passive creatures; Steve Irwin's death was an incredibly strange fluke, and his family came out and said he would be horrified if people thought of them that way.
I say stingrays only arbitrarily. What I want is a mob that lies on the bottom, and only attacks if tread upon or attacked. I suggested sting-rays because they seem like the obvious choice. It seems silly not including something just because people might make jokes about it.

I wish lighting were better in the oceans so these worlds could be better explored.
Luminescent coral?
I'm thinking that someone has to come up with a theme-fitting object analogous to scuba gear. I HATE the scuba idea because it doesn't fit the game, but you're right, this aspect of the world shouldn't be neglected.

I've seen oceans so deep that you're choking for air when you reach the bottom. I want to explore it, not die before I get there. Or at least be able to see down on it. Coral sounds nice, but that's either a new block or new mob.
As I see it, these mobs will be a lot harder to code as their AI has 3 dimensions to work with, instead of a flat plain and a jump button.

Looks pretty oceanic to me :smile.gif:
Allow me to direct you to this idea, my good sir
Also a massive mushroom mongler.
