When exposed to sunlight (meaning that bases that are underneath a desert or a house that has a roof in a desert won't make you have to drink all the time) in a desert you will need to drink.
When entering a desert a water bar made out of water bottles will appear above the food bar. It will work similarly to the food bar in the way that sprinting and other things affect it. If you are in water the water bar won't be there regardless of what biome you're in. The speed at which the water bar depletes goes along with the day/night cycle, it will deplete the fastest at noon and the speed will go down all the way to night when it slows down to almost nothing. Water that was collected from a swamp biome will make you hungry, and water bottles would also need to be stackable

This exact method of thirst has been suggested quite a few times. Regardless of how it's implemented, people are still gonna dislike this all the same because it gives the player another monotonous bar that has to be be kept track of. Is a thirst bar realistic? Well sure, but it digs in to the fun of the gameplay. This idea would also repel players more from going in deserts. We need to walk around with quite a bit of food to keep our hunger at bay, so let's not have players clutter their inventory even more water bottles.

They would be stackable, genius. And since when do players already carry water bottles around all the time?

I've thought about this a bit too, and I think food should restore a bit of thirst too, depending on the dryness of the food. Melons, for example, are almost as thirst-quenching as a bottle of water or milk. Bread is about in the middle. Cookies are pretty dry.

That wont make a difference, it's still nothing but useless clutter.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...

I don't think you're currently in the position to throw anything offensive at me. Okay, so the water bottles would be stackable? That doesn't strengthen your idea at all. People don't want another survival bar to keep track of - especially if it hurts the want for players to go into deserts. Simple as that. So the next time you pull out the sarcasm card, take a ride on the search button coaster to see that you're not the first to purpose your exact idea.
Don't buy the picture of yourself on the ride though, becase the camera has broken timing and ends up taking a picture of the guy behind you.

I hate people who complain. I hate spiders. I hate people who own an Xbox One. I hate people who like sandbox games. I hate people who like first person shooters. I hate people who like explosions. I hate people who like video games. I hate people who are hateful. I hate people that don't like spam. I hate people who like cake. I hate people who type in proper grammar and spell words properly on the internet. I hate hypocrites.
I don't really know what people want, but I definitely want a thirst bar. Hunger, thirst, hot, cold, dampness (for athlete's foot and such), dirtiness, even going to the bathroom, I want it all. Would this turn Minecraft into the Sims? Well for one thing, I like the Sims a lot. And for another thing, no, because you only have one Stevie.
You could bundle all these bars together and call it "extreme survival".

"Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled Trainers should try to win with the Pokémon they love best."
