This is such an awesome set of ideas. Deserts really need help in Minecraft. So much potential, but so little time spent on making them...Deserty.
Another thing I would like to see is biome-climate compatibility. How many of you have seen a Taiga right next to a desert? Everyone? Ok, how many of you have seen a Desert, without a Taiga next to it?
If the world-gen patterns were to be altered, so that certain biomes could not spawn next to others (tundra & taiga/desert being the best example), Minecraft would be much improved.
It's a nice idea, but Jeb has said in the past he doesn't want to change how biomes generate. I suppose giant deserts are about as close as we'll get ;p
Deserts should have a desert to flat lands to other biome transition. I always thought that, also deserts should occasionally set any trees inside them on fire.
No because building something shouldn't be changed on the biome. If I want a farm in the desert I can put it there. Also why should my hunger go down faster. Only thing that makes sense is less water. But not water disappearing.
Just because you live in a forest doesn't mean everyone does.

That's not the idea here. The idea is that Deserts aren't realistic enough (Yes, I know 'MC isn't realistic!'). Deserts need to be much harder, since they really are just a place for sand farming and temple/village farming. There's nothing special. Turning them into deserts would make everything wonderfully complicated and hard.
Well, Villagers should rush inside when a sandstorm is about too hit. But how do they tell if ones going too hit their faces in? A Light sandstorm.
Just a slower, less sandy sandstorm, like a warning sign for the players and vilagers.
Just a suggestion :3

I'll add that to the sandstorm suggestion. I guess it sort of picks up, a warning of about a minute maybe. (Also adding an eighth suggestion of my own)
Also, I'm sure if everyone throws this at Dinnerbone, he'll see it. *lobs thread at Dinnerbone*

I live in a desert so I don't want my hunger going down extra fast when I'm farming, mining or building.
Best way to combat that is food with a better saturation level.
This is a sandbox game so I shouldn't be punished from kids who think deserts should cant be lived in. It makes no sense why my hunger would drop faster.

Suggestion 1:
Near the few water wells in the desert you have slightly a better chance on finding Gold ore or diamond in the ground there.
Wild West movies shows diamond or gold mines in deserts you know.
Suggestion 2:
Due the heat spiders are always aggressive in the desert.
Too bad there are no scorpions in the game, but always aggressive spiders fills in that gap.

Technically exists.

You aren't going to like 1.4 then.
WHAT?!

Because...
Dinnerbone has changed hunger so the higher the difficulty, the faster your hunger depletes.

Your sig explain what I'm going through right now.
I find your lack of definable humor disturbing.
