Introduction: Let me start out with saying this was inspired by Djoslin'sInsta-wire mod. However, I think his recipes are a bit silly, and I think this needs to be put into Vanilla MineCraft. So please, don't make posts about how there are mods for this. This forum is meant to get stuff put into the official release of the game.
Reason:
Redstone is essentially a players final technological evolution in the game. For the most advanced designs, we are must utilize the glowing red dust. It's truly it's own layer of the game, and a very important feature to many players. The problem is that it's giant. It takes such massive spaces to make such small contraptions.
And when asked for a resolution, Mojang gave us the repeater. The repeater not only delays circuits, but it also repeats them up to another 16 blocks. Sure, the repeater opened doors for more advanced redstone creations, but it really wasn't enough.
The idea of the repeater can be expanded upon, advanced, in a balanced way. Small, 1x1x1 repeater-like blocks who's functionality covers a broad range of our beloved gates for our beloved contraptions.
Here is my proposals. I've attempted to make each recipe represent it's actual design, and require about the same resources (we don't need to just be handed stuff. Again, this is meant to be balanced.)
Recipes:
RS-NOR Latch 1 Tick Delay. Input on left and right. Output on front and back.
NOT Gate 1 Tick Delay. Input's on back, output's on front.
OR Gate 1 Tick Delay. Input's on left, back and right; output on front.
NOR Gate 1 Tick Delay. Input's on left, back and right; output on front.
Works like the OR Gate but inverts the output.
AND Gate 1 Tick Delay. Input's on left, back and right; output on front.
If possible, the block would check what blocks are surrounding it, and consider how many outputs there are connected to it. This is so that one device can act as a 2 or 3 input AND device. So, if redstone is connecting to the left and a repeater on the right, but nothing on the back, it will only wait for the left and right inputs to activate. If a third input is connected behind it, it will require all 3 inputs to be active.
NAND Gate 1 Tick Delay. Input's on left, back and right; output on front.
Same concept as the AND gate, inverts the output.
XOR Gate 1 Tick Delay. Input's on left and right; output on front.
XNOR Gate 1 Tick Delay. Input's on left and right; output on front.
Personal Comments:
I wasn't sure about the NOT gate since inverters are already small, but someone else may like it. I also wasn't completely sure about the NOR, NAND and XNOR gates since an NOR gate could just be connected to the output.
If there is any changes you think should be made, or anything that should be added, please comment. All criticism is appreciated!
One person doesn't get to just dictate where certain suggestions go. In fact, that's contrary to the forum rules, that say one suggestion per thread. Please don't pointlessly post like this.

Making a suggestion without searching IS against the rules and you CAN be given a warning for it.
If you see a suggestion that has been made before do not respond to it. Report the suggestion with a link to the thread you think it is similar to.
Staff gets the final say on if an idea is unique enough to warrant it's own thread. We also reserve the right to move, lock, hide, or merge any redundant suggestions.
I'm sure there are some better threads than that, but they're impossible to find. It's likely that if there's a mod for it someone's already though of it before.
Megathreads that have a single theme are not considered wishlists (although they're supposed to provide links to separate threads if available.)
DON'T:
Bump Threads - Do not bump threads to get more replies or reply to older threads that have dropped off unless there is significant new information to add.

Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.

I really shouldn't even have posted on this thread but I'm trying to post links to be helpful (since the moderators don't always remember to post the given links before locking):

True, but you'd be able to fit it in one block, making designs much more compact.
