Cannons would be perfectly fine, if the cannon balls were either charges, for incendiary ammo, or iron, for destructive ammo. The tube would be made of iron and the base would be made of wood.
Its a good idea. But nobody is going to use 3 iron blocks for only 40 shots. Maby a barrel made with 6 iron ingots, a piuece of flint, and a block of wood not planks but a log. It would do maby 1 or 2 more damage then the bow but a lot straiter shot. It would be craft like this.
Write when the book sucks and it isn’t going anywhere. Just keep writing. It doesn’t suck. Your conscious is having a panic attack because it doesn’t believe your subconscious knows what it’s doing. ~ Cory Doctorow
1. There is a mega gun thread. All gun suggestions should go there
2. Muskets were created before TNT, so there is no reason they should not be in the game.
3. I support some type of musket, but it has to be different from a bow significantly in terms of attack style, so as to not be boring. There have been other, more fleshed out suggestions than this.
If Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter were all destroyed, 99% of teens would go insane. If you're one of the 1% that would be laughing at them, copy this into your signature and hope it happens.
I like the idea of a "Hand Dispenser", though I dread the mechanics.
Converts your 2x2 grid to "ammo" storage?
Randomly ejects items you're carrying?
Oh my...

Fire charges for explosive ammo...
That's a pretty good idea.
EDIT: Wait, that isn't what you said. Derp.
You invade this world claiming it as your own simply by your presence.
You slaughter animals for their hides and flesh.
You destroy the landscape and gouge out the earth to build your monuments to vanity.
And yet you call me monster.
Crossbow: A crossbow would be a decent addition, because crossbows have existed for a long time, so they can't be classified as a truly advanced weapon. A crossbow would be made by crafting a couple of wooden planks with a bow. It could use arrows for ammunition. Also, there should be a craftable scope that you can add on to the crossbow, which would essentially give you a more accurate sniper-type weapon.
Lever-action rifle or shotgun: I'm really not a big fan of flintlock weaponry or muskets. More advanced, yet still primitive weapons that would make great additions, such as 1800's lever action weapons. Examples of these would be either the Winchester M1873 lever action rifle or the Winchester M1887 lever action shotgun. They wouldn't be overpowered because the lever would have to be cocked after each shot, and you would have to reload one shell at a time. These weapons are more advanced than muskets, but they're also primitive, so I think one would be a decent addition for Minecraft.
I don't see why people should beso concerned about guns making pvp too easy and/or Imbalancing pvp. Because guess what? Potions already did that. Why would I be worried when about guns when I can just sprint up with a swiftness potion II and just toss splash damage and poision potions that do damage which is not reduced by armor?
Question, would you be able to make a musket with out proper tools?
Could you make a furnace without proper tools? No, it takes a lot of time and effort to build one. Could you make a solid diamond pickaxe without proper tools? No, it's difficult to carve diamonds even today, how would a castaway do it? Could you mine to the centre of the planet with a stone pick? No, you'd need many picks made of a much more resilient material, and even then, it would take years. Could you travel to inferno just by piling up some rocks? I don't even need to explain this one. Could you build a fully defended house complete with solid stone walls, numerous farms and living spaces filled with fine things? No, castles like that take years of work by a large workforce to make, so why should a musket be any different.

No, there has never, ever been a sandbox game with a story or ending... except Grand Theft Auto... and Saints Row... and Red Dead Redemption... and Crack Down... and Assassins Creed...

I share your views on the crossbow being the sniper-type weapon, but I think it should have unique ammo, like a bolt (iron ingot above a stick and 2 feathers). Also, I think that the zoom should be built in, like maybe a 1.5x when you hold down the fire button. But, then again, a scope could increase that to about 2.5x if you hold 'fire' down longer. But I think that the scope should be fairly expensive, like gold and glass.
But about the gun; anything after muskets cannot be in the game, anything that can shoot more than one shot is too powerful unless you nerf it to be pretty much useless. A musket is the best choice for a Minecraft gun.

That can fit in too if ya think about it! Cross bows would just be like bow and arrow, but longer reload, but higher dmg(like 5 dmg instead of 4) and further range while this works like the DEATH SHOT
Further range with a crossbow? Crossbows are actually suppose to be only useful at close range.
What came first?
what can be made without advanced knowledge?
You have asked one of the most dumb questions I have ever heard. A cannon is a fieldpiece (a gigantic firearm which usually shoots shells or grapeshot). I don't know about what you consider advanced knowledge, because that is entirely a matter of opinion. On the other hand, cannons and guns came about the same time from the same technology.
As far as your other comment (could you make a musket without proper tools?), the answer is no. But, swords, pickaxes, and pistons are in game. Steve has no anvil, hammer, or metalworking device. #minecraftisnotrealisticgetoverit
Care to elaborate? No isn't a good answer and it makes you look stupid.

Agreed. "Cuz I sed so" isn't a valid point. Especially not for someone relatively new to the site with very little reputation, but also just in general. I think that I have a fairly good reputation by now, and I still make it a point to back up my opinion with as much supporting reasons as I can. That may not always be necessary, such as in cases where the concept is so obviously bad it cannot be taken seriously, but as the 60+ pages of discussion here might indicate, this is not one of those instances.

Yes, you sure do back up your arguments, so much so that I'm sometimes forced to just skim through your posts. I'd have a lot of trouble arguing against you if I ever disagreed with your posts. I always provide at least one argument, if you can't do that then it really makes you look dumb, and yes, "cuz I sed so" is never a valid point, no matter what the topic.

Heh... Sorry about that. I try to always make sure that I have the best arguments I can put forward. I guess that does make my posts a bit "heavy" at times.
You have to reload with iron ingots, and one iron ingot = 1 "bullet"
B = barrel
W = wood log
F = flint
